So I managed to facetank Valdaran when I ran into him in the Warden’s Lab on Ultimate. A while later in the ruins in Old Arkovia I ran into a hero named Hellwraith. And it kicked my digital arse. Twice. The second time while it was half health.
I have 84% Fire Resistance with 12% over max. In looking through the database on Hellwraith, I can’t quite tell why he gave me such a hard time. I suspect Burn damage, but I don’t know how to tell what I have as far as resistance to burn damage.
I also noticed my Life Leech Resistance is -25%, I guess from moving into Ultimate (because I don’t see an item that is giving me -25%) though he doesn’t seem to be doing any Life Leeching, so probably not the reason for my difficulty with him.
And the 2nd time around I separated him from his goon squad so it wasn’t one of them debuffing me.
I also have trouble with Gargabol in the Ancient Grove who is also flame based
G’s fight is deceptive.
Gargabol environment adds grief during the second stage. The first stage is pretty easy, but the second has the environmental RR, plants, and G’s speed increase once he’s over 1/2 dmg. So imho it’s more the RR and extra dot stacking than the particular type.
Yeah, Gargabol has a few other factors going for him and i just about killed Gargabol on Elite before he got me, so I didn’t think Hellwraith would prove much of a problem. So hubris was part of the problem.
I had some Flamedrinker ointment in my ability bar (as prep for the Gargabol fight), but now that I read the description it does not reduce burn duration.
I’ll have to remember about the Molten Skin for future encounters with champions sporting a lot of burn damage.
Wondering
A) how crucible farmers manage it
-Just kill them fast enough?
-Lifesteal through it?
-Both?
-Other? Circuit Breaker? (IIRC Mercy popped in my first encounter, so it was probably on cool down when I went back in for Round 2, for round 3 I had amusingly killed him via Bleeding or Internal Trauma as all I found of him was his treasure trove).
B) why other forms of dots don’t seem to be so problematic for my champion
-Maybe I haven’t run in to anything uber nasty
-Ultimate Dreeg Dog thing was kinda painful though
In melee range Hellwraith can shotgun you with his flame nova. That’s why you died. Gargabol is the same with his fissures.
In both instances it’s the physical damage killing you not the fire damage. You could have toons with over 200% fire resistance still drop to Gargabol. On the other hand Hellwraith (even for fire builds) drops in seconds.
The effect I was noticing was a massive loss in health, with a continued health drain. I backed off and tried to let it recover, recovery happen but it was quite some time before my regen kicked in and overpowered the loss. Went back in and tried to finish the job but the same thing happened again only this time my regen did not overpower the health loss when i backed off and since my potion was still on cool down, —|-{@.
Same thing happened with Gargabol only the flame jets did for more than just about anything else. Well that and I still don’t have the timing down on dodging his punches when I go in, which necessitated some backpedaling which ran me through the jets.
I had a bit of free time and took a look and think about your troubles with Hellwraith. He has 2 sources of burn to stack:
-6s aura activated fairly soon after spawn (fire/burn)
-projectiles for phys/fire/burn (your armor should soak the physcial)
Quick and dirty calc:
-he does have 65% LLR so your LL will be .35 x 6% adcth = ~ 2%. Your attack speed is quite low, so I’ll just base it off 1 per second for simplicity (accurate melee numbers really should be x ~1.25)
-You have lit+phys which is good types vs it, so for simplicity will ignore his resists and assume ~ 15k avg x .02 = 300 leech per second.
-This doesn’t account for Savagery’s damage boost, though. Which could amount to maybe 2x this base leech once you get full charges up (you don’t have that much lightning support).
-Feral hunger leech is 23% chance for use, so bit of luck needed at the correct time for this leech source.
-Devouring swarm leech is probably neglegible.
you may not be leeching as much health as you think.
Also, Unstoppable (relic proc) is activated by a crit on you, which is unlikely to happen at that point because your DA is high enough to remove the crit threat for that particular monster.
-Which means Mehnir’s Will (which has relatively small regen boost) heal and Mercy heal are your circuit breaker heals. Mercy has a 50s cd and MW has 10s uptime and 12s downtime.
you also may have less triggered regen than you think. ~250? health per sec with MW active.
Also, I did not include RR from Assasin’s Mark as I don’t know if it is proccing that frequently with that OA . You need a crit for AM to proc and I’m not sure what value is required at that point in the game; you might be in the 5% crit chance range. You should mouse-over your OA on occasion, to see where that number stands vs some of these targets.
Boy do I have a lot to learn about all the ins and out about this game.
I’ve been playing closer attention to the debuffs I’m getting hit with and I think the main issue is internal trauma. That is the one that seems to last the longest and give my health bar fits about recovering from.
And I think the only thing that protects against that is physical resistance?
Hmm, picked up a pair of Mythical Chauses of Barbaros, of which this pair has 2% physical resistance so that is something.
