Help: Deadly Aim proccing?

I’m confused; with my small quantum of CDR, deadly aim should be up all the time, but it is not. I rarely see it proccing. What am I not understanding?

Here is where I am right now:
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2dwaWdN

I have set Devotion procs (Ultos, Bat) to Storm totem and Wind Devil respectively, because I use those skills the most, they are up permanently, and my understanding was that these skills cannot proc deadly aim because they do no weapon damage, but if I assign devotion procs which do WD% to them, they should.
I also use Storm Box with some amount of frequency, which I can see procs Deadly Aim.
But it’s still not up as much as I’d like it.
Why?
It seems as if my OA is at least acceptable for where I am right now and the gear I have (I am currently in Ultimate A2 and having no problem whatsoever).

  1. So my primary question is: Why isn’t Deadly Aim up so often with 5 second duration, 4 second cooldown, and so many possible proc chances?
  2. Secondarily, if you have any tips as to what I am not doing so well (besides “get better gear”), please let me know, I’m no pro. But this is my second character so far, still no problems, and yes I know I can use better gear. I’m happy that all my resists are capped, some slightly overcapped, and that my DA seems to be such that I don’t get immediately crushed by bosses (whom I can kite anyhow).

thanks tons

It behawe like Blast shield - cooldown start when actual skill end, so you cant keep it up all the time.

As has been said, there are a number of skills that behave this way. The cool down doesn’t start until after it drops. Another one is Arcane Will.

Those skills don’t proc Deadly Aim because they are player pets. Player pets don’t proc on-attack item and mastery skills. This is partially by design and partially because of engine limitations.

I was told that they will proc Deadly Aim if there is a proc with WD% attached to them

You were misinformed. % WD on a pet would use the pet’s weapon damage, which - usually - isn’t very much of anything at all.

Sorry for derailing this thread.
Are you sure about this? I thought I saw that zantai said that devotion is player skill. If it’s bound to pet, whether its player or pet scaled, the devotion always scaled to player bonus.
If it’s bound to pet, their attack is only used to proc it.

This is not derailing at all, it’s the main point of my question. This is my interpretation of that too. Sadly, my testing is inconclusive…

I was wrong:
http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27495

http://www.grimdawn.com/guide/character/devotion.php

If it’s bind to pet-scaled pet, the devotion skill will scale with pet.
If it’s bind to player-scaled pet, the devotion skill will scale with player.

Whelp, time to re-adjust one of my planned build…

Edit:
I assumed Cooldown reduction is still scaled by player whether the pet is player-scaled or pet-scaled.

Deadly Aim is not a devotion proc. It’s a skill proc that only works on your attacks.

I want to proc Deadly Aim from a Devotion proc (with WD%) bound to a player-scaled pet attack (e.g. Wind Devil, Storm Totem). I can’t get it to proc using Hand of Ultos tied to Storm Totem.

Deadly Aim is pretty limited on what it will proc on. As far as I’m aware, it only procs on your direct attacks.

That seems to be the case from what I can test. I was misinformed! Thanks much

Bit confused by what procs this. IIRC it procs of any direct player ability or pet ability that scales with player, but I see nothing about WD% so is that just a red herring? Trying to build a mage hunter burn build but need to be sure it will trigger off burn ticks.

Literally explained in the tooltip. You crit, you gain the buff.
