Hello,
I’ve recently changed my OS to Linux, and upon trying Grim Dawn on it I’ve noticed that most heroes and bosses do not spawn. For instance, the spots where Cronley’s lieutenants spawn in the Four Hills and the Hideout are always empty, but Direni and Darius are there. Randomly spawning heroes like Leander are also absent, but Bolla still appears if her bounty is active. I am not playing the current version of the game (I am playing v. 1.0.0.8, acquired from Steam’s database through DepotDownloader), but this issue never appeared on Windows for the multiple years I’ve been playing that version.
Was this an issue with that version in the past for Linux? Are there ways to fix this?
Well that’s curious. I’ve been on linux mint for about 2 years now (so around the 1.2.1 update) playing primarily the GOG version and haven’t seen this issue. I just recently moved my steam install over to linux as well thanks to windows not wanting to boot anymore (I was dual booting for those 2 years) and tried this on the 1.3 playtest and its also working fine there.
May I ask why you specifically chose 1.0.0.8? I would try a more up-to-date version like 1.1.9.8 which is available through Steam without the need for DepotDownloader if you’re not keen on the 1.2 changes or the current live build of 1.2.1.6 (Or any other higher version through DD). Beyond that, I can’t think of any way to fix this.
Better itemization, very little powercreeping, balanced towards dungeon exploration rather than endlessly scaling encounters, etc.
Playing a more recent version isn’t an option because I simply dislike it.

I see. Well the game has changed significantly in the last 9 years so I wouldn’t even know where to being in trouble shooting this. The only thing I could think to recommend is updating it just for testing purposes so you know whether this issue exists on more recent builds or not. If the issue does still exist on a more recent build then it may be something to do with your version of proton/wine or your linux distro. If the issue is no longer there then something changed in the game itself to resolve it. To be honest I don’t recall any patches geared towards fixing linux specific problems so I would assume it would be proton/wine or the distro but without more solid information to go on it’s hard to say.
If you do update and want to return to 1.0.0.8 then make sure you back up your characters before updating.
Been playing on Linux for nearly 10 years, I don’t specifically remember that ever being an issue, but there were periods of time I didn’t play regularly.
What distro are you using and which wine/proton version?
Did you copy your savefile across or is this with a new character?
