Hey it's me

Hey, I’m Rainy Plu

I’ve been playing this game for a few years now and never managed to sign up… But I think I’ve realised by now that this is my favourite game of all time, so I thought it was time to finally become an official member of the community.

Some things about me: I’m a young man, happily married to my soul mate. I am a big music lover and I am very nerdy about progressive rock/metal, but I like many genres and styles. I love video games, especially Grim Dawn (Still haven’t gotten over how good it is!). My favourite class, aesthetics-wise, is probably occultist? But I love soldier and demolitionist too.

I made a review of Grim Dawn on steam recently that I thought would be cool to include here:

"I really love this game. It’s probably… no, definitely, my favourite game of all time! I bought it the first time in the summer of 2014 and at this point it was still in early access and wasn’t as developed yet. At first I didn’t really know what I was doing and I wasn’t super impressed, but fast forward a few months and I played it again and something just clicked. I thought this game was so good! I’ve been hooked ever since.

Later on I started playing it with one of my good friends, we had a ton of fun, and then I met my wife in 2016 and I bought her the game as a surprise. She really loved it and we’ve been playing it together on and off since.

Grim Dawn is such a great ARPG and it really holds a special place in my heart. I love making characters and trying out new builds. There is a great amount of complexity in it, with the dual class system and devotions etc., but not to the point where it’s too much. There is a massive amount of replayability in the game (as you can see from my hours played) and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a great game to play solo or with your friends and loved ones. There is also an expansion coming out soon which I am really looking forward to.

Overall, I can warm-heartedly recommend this game to fans of Diablo-style ARPG’s or RPG’s in general.

“Iron well spent.” ;-)"

I guess my introduction got a bit long, thanks for reading though! I am happy to be a member of the community of such a great game. Thanks to the devs as well for all the love and care you pour into this gem.

I’m gonna get back to ‘Grim Dawning’ now :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear you have been enjoying GD.

Damnit, I never thought to leave a Steam review with “Iron well spent!” in it. Now this failure will haunt me for the rest of my life. THANKS.

Happy to have you here. Time well spent.

Hello Rainy Plu,

and welcome to the forum and grim dawn

Hey hey, death is only the beginning.

welcome to the forums!
I got into this game pretty much around the same time you did, wish I could get my wife to play it…
I also love progressive rock!
you’ll fit right in

Thanks to everyone for replying! It really means a lot to me and it’s great to be welcomed in such a way. I’ll say it again - Super happy to finally be a member of such a friendly and great community for an amazing game.

It’s also great to see that others here are into the same music as me  I’ll probably post some music links in the thread for what we are listening to!

I like prog rock too, my stupid peninsula has some tradition in that field : Banco del mutuo soccorso, Osanna, Area, Premiata forneria Marconi are all prog rock from the 70’s. Check em out if you never heard. Non italian stuff i love High Tide and King Crimson above everything else.

Edit : If you don’t mind space rock/psych stuff don’t forget to check hawkwind (old lemmy’s - from mothörhead - band)

Man, rock progressivo italiano from the 70s is amazing! Although I usually don’t understand what they’re saying… I’m also a huge (early) king crimson fan, my favourite band is gentle giant though

Check High Tide, thx me later.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll be sure to check them out. I think I’ve heard some of Premiata forneria Marconi because they are highly rated on Progarchives, I think? Or maybe it was another Italian prog rock band, not sure.

Have you heard of L’Ira Del Baccano? They are a pretty new instrumental prog rock/stoner/metal band from Italy. I stumbled upon them totally on accident a while ago, good stuff.

I wouldn’t say my country has a big history of prog rock at all (I’m from Denmark, living in Sweden currently) but we do have Anubis Gate which is a great Prog metal band. My wife loves them. Highly recommended as well.

I’ve been meaning to check out Gentle Giant. What album should I start with?

Well, I’m a huge fan of Dream Theater, it’s my favourite band, and Porcupine Tree… I love Rush and Yes too.

Check High Tide, thx me later.

will do! I also have a suggestion for you, that is if you don’t already know them, check out the (italian) band ‘Syndone’

I’ve been meaning to check out Gentle Giant. What album should I start with?

‘Octopus’ is a good starting point as it quite sums up what they were about

funny thing, progressive rock is mostly not the best choice while playing Grim Dawn as you will miss a lot of what’s going on…

@ Rainy Plu I’ve seen L’ira del baccano live because i like desert/psych/doom etc…

They played at a “stoned hand of doom” (it was a stoner/doom festival that used to happen in summer/spring here in rome but sadly isn’t a thing anymore) and they left a good impression to me.

thanks are in order, I listened to the first high tide album this evening and liked it!

although I must say that I find it a bit incoherent from time to time, also has to do with the production quality of 1969, combined with the washes of overdrive.
I suppose this is a band that needs to grow on you, I wouldn’t list it in my top 10 (yet) but it’s alright

welcome to forums
