I like ranged type characters normally.

As to your question, I’m personally reserving all my ranged builds as soon as the expansion comes out since I think they pretty much confirmed that they’ll be adding a new gunslinger class (dual pistols).
But yeah, I would recommend starting off with a shield/tank class. You kill things slower but you won’t die much. I think its the best class to start with so you can get used to the mechanics, controls and maps.
