Generally I like the game. Maybe like the potential of the game is more accurate. I play pacifist mode in Pioneer maps, so anything said below is going to be even worse on harder maps or with pacifist off.
I’ve had towns up to about 1,000 members. I’ve noticed there’s a sweet spot around 200+ where you’ve overcome the initial rush to explore, develop food and resources, and maintain desirability so that everything isn’t in constant state of needing repair. But after that it starts all over again. From 300 and up it’s back to the micro-management. For me, micro-management is gonna kill the game. Not worth the stress and headaches. No time to enjoy what’s been created when every second is spent adjusting something so that everything doesn’t break.
Hope future patches address this. I’ll give it some more time and if nothing changes I’m onto something else.
Some people enjoy micro-management. There are threads on this forum filled with long chats about if you X then Y for Z and add A plus B then adjust X you’ll get K and you know if that’s what you like to spend your time doing FF is probably a great game for you. In my case, I want the game to not be easy, but also not be a constant struggle. Should it take time to learn the best ways to lay out your town? Sure. Should it take time to understand how one thing affects another? Sure. But FF doesn’t provide any feedback to the player so it’s all guess work.
At this point the game isn’t really a beta. It’s still in development and we’re being tasked with to do what the devs should have already done.
Having a balance all the way up to 700 people, without micromanaging and most of the time just slapping down things that I need (derived for the information provided by the statistics and resources panels) it’s really easy to get by.
My town of 700 fends off raids without me intervening.
Well that’s great. Maybe I just have a buggy version. At 700 pop for me I’m constantly reassigning people to jobs they already have, finding job positions mysteriously empty that were filled moments before, watching the entire town get swamped by uncollected trash when a minute before that the compost sites were collecting all of it without any issues, sudden infestations of rats and empty rat catcher buildings when they were all manned a second ago and even when they are fully manned the rats aren’t caught. The list is endless, and exhausting, and makes the game a joke.
They release the same build to Steam. If you’re using that version it’s not the game.
If your town gets swamped by uncollected trash then the compost yards could not have been collecting without issues. It doesn’t happen over the space of in-game months.
By your descriptions there is something else going on that is not a bug, and you have yet to provide evidence to the contrary.
I’m running 7.6 like everyone else. I was being sarcastic saying maybe I have a buggy version. My twon gets swamped by uncollected trash for no reason at all. Stable population. Same number compost buildings that collected it just fine a month earlier. It’s random. Same with rat infestations. The “something else” going on is that FF isn’t ready for release yet and they are getting people like yourself to troubleshoot all of the endless problems they haven’t fixed yet. Instead of asking for ridiculous “evidence” (I provided the evidence by explaining what is happening) maybe take a more reasonable stance on this - you’re an unpaid dev on this project doing what the game developer should be doing themselves. If that’s fun for you, great. The dwindling activity on these forums is evidence that most people haven’t found it fun and have moved on. My posts are a last gasp effort to call attention to a game that is far from ready for release, chock full of buggy mechanics, lacking in some of the most basic reporting tools found in other games, and essentially unplayable yet, unless you perceive playing a game to be a full time job.
Except that next month you were overrun by waste, meaning they weren’t collecting it properly and the waste was gradually accumulating.
Nah, I’m a player of the game that reports game breaking bugs just like I would in a fully released game. Most of the fixes have had nothing to do with my interaction but they have improved the state of the game for me.
It hasn’t been released. They don’t plan to release it until all base functionality is present in the game AND working as intended, they are also implementing feedback as per the players opinions that are currently playing the game.
The people that aren’t posting here are enjoying playing the game in its current form since this is the least buggy release we have. If there are people playing the game and it is ultimately functioning in its current state how is it unplayable?
You refuse to provide sufficient evidence of your issues, and when your statements are addressed using the evidence you yourself have provided you refuse to accept that your assumptions are incorrect. Or just fail to properly communicate the problem you’re facing in favour of sarcasm. if these were bugs you’d be able to provide the evidence of it, even in the face of my statements.
My statements also directly include an acknowledgement of the bugs and issues, as well as the fact that this is currently the least buggy version.
It sounds to me like your frustration stems from wanting more UI help when things go wrong. Like instead of a bunch of icons showing you trash is piling up, you need a chart that shows you trash collecting capacity or a tooltip that gives you things to check. I think if you are able to put your frustrations into specific requests the devs can solve, it might help shape the end result into a better game - which is the whole point of early access! Seems like there are lots of things still being added and polished to me.
You do realize you bought an Early Access game … don’t you? Early access is never a ‘finished’ game. They are always full of bugs and little issues that need to be fixed so the devs can get to a ‘finished’ game. They are one giant test bed to pick out, identify, and deal with bugs. If you want a finished game, with few or no bugs, you should not purchase any Early Access games.
You aren’t incorrect about any of the issues you mention, but you are the one who bought and downloaded a game clearly labeled as EA. If this is the first time you did so, you’ve learned something. If it isn’t the first time, you are just yelling in a canyon to hear an echo. The game will be playable when it is fully released, but until then you either enjoy the learning experience and each update … or go play something else until it is released.
Personally, I enjoy EA games. The bugs can be annoying at times, but more than that I enjoy watching them progress and taking part in that process.
