How about a fulltime Necro instead of a part timer?

The Grim dawn Necro is more like a part timer than a real necro. the skeletons only last a few seconds. So in a battle you would lose your army and are alone, which defeats the purpose of being a necro. I really liked diablo’s fulltime necro, permanent skeletons, and even permanent RANGED skeletons.

They might be functionally permanent. We don’t know yet. They said that there’d be a duration reset kinda thingy, apparently, so maybe you’ll only be at risk of them dissipating in a boss fight…Except if that’s true, then the skill will be off CD, so you can simply resummon them and not care at all, whatsoever. We can’t really judge it yet until we see it.

Perhaps you watched a different video than what I saw? Seemed quite a bit longer than a few seconds. Either way it goes current values displayed in the video are subject to change.

As for their view and decisions on permanency… /shrugs

Lets not forget the text on them in the Misadventure either…

Raise Skeletons
”The art of reanimating skeletal remains is among the first rites of aspiring Necromancers, but also one of the most rudimentary. Through sheer will, a Necromancer may call upon the spirits beyond the veil and draw them into the bones of the deceased. Should the ritual succeed, skeletal minions, loyal only to the summoner, shall rise. However, due to the unstable nature of the spell, such minions will not remain standing for long.”

A necromancer is not complete without an arsenal of undead minions to do his bidding. With this ability, you raise three skeletons to serve you. More powerful minions have a chance to emerge at higher ranks. Bring forth any combination of warriors, archers, mages and revenants.

Further mastery through modifiers increases the summon limit as well as the longevity and durability of your undead servants. When fully trained, any foes you slay have a chance to reset the cooldown.

Occultist already covers permanent summons. The whole point of introducing new masteries is to add new archetypes, and Grim Dawn is not trying to copy Diablo 2’s Necromancer.
I’m sure they’ve heard enough about the number of headaches the Blizzard devs had to go through after introducing the D2 Necromancer.

GD Necromancer minions are basically like skillshots - use them well (and in conjunction with various support skills) and although the skill itself is temporary, you should always have at least some minions around. Screw up, and you could end up fighting alone.

OMG. Summoners will actually have to do something. Might even have to press a button!

D2 summons weren’t really full time since they would often times get one shotted by bosses and require corpses. During a boss fight if you needed the army you’d have to backtrack and find some corpses if there were none available. Then you’d get back and… Diablo would firewave and kill that army once again. I’m glad they aren’t like that…

As for permanent vs temp, tbh we haven’t really seen the full info on the transmuters or skill tree or even the newly revealed item based skill modifiers, so maybe it’s possible.

The Necro will have a permanent summon and you will be able to keep summoning newer skeletons and increase the duration through a modifier (not to mention that Devotion that lets you summon skeletons…), plus I like the idea of temporary summons for two reasons: It avoids performance problems by having a lot of stuff on screen, and it actually encourages you to play the game, rather than just summoning and standing there, then complain that the game is boring…

I must have missed something…

Source?

Stream.

Zantai said it on chat.

one permanent summon… could be the undead dragon we’re waiting for?

Diablo was something of an exception, but against him I remember I’d just hide in a corner and spam Bone Spirit.
The D2 Necromancer had soooo many shortcuts for tackling content.
Blood Golem/Iron Maiden, spellcaster/boss minion Revive armies, Corpse Explosions… physical/elemental/whatever immunity you say? Here, have an Amplify Damage. Annoying mobs? Here, have an Attract. Room full of spellcasters and your resists suck? Here, have a Confuse.
As much as I loved the class, it didn’t take a genius to figure out it was broken.

Well it was originally going to be a permanent Snuffaluffagus but then they saw the undead dragon pic you posted and realized they completely misjudged the player base. Undead Dragon is go.

(jk… I have no idea what it is but if it’s an undead Snuffaluffagus I won’t mind)

theres also the fact the duration balances out the fact you summon Death Revenants at 16/16, sorry but the fact you can summon out multiple of them in one cast is a little ridiculous, given that they have all their skills save their own raise dead skill.(inb4 26/16 raise dead lets you summon Moos)

one of the modifiers gives it a near complete cooldown refresh when you or your minions kill somethin, and the fact the cooldown is naturally shorter than the skeletons duration even at base level, it wont be hard to maintain a standing cohort of undead.

I bet he’s looking at Grouch in that picture wishing he’d get out of the garbage can so he could snuffle around in it.

Looks hungry and miffed.

If he could only be a permanent Necromancers pet (stacked with gear bonuses) he could achieve total domination of Sesame Street ezpz.

I never said the necromancer didn’t have the options to deal with Diablo, just that the skeletons were not all powerful simply because the duration was infinite.

No need to be so defensive, your post just made me remember how ridiculously good the D2 Necro was at employing cheesy tactics.

it’s sad to see our very own necro’s skipping his summoning classes:rolleyes:

Yeah, I also like that they’re temporary - there has to be something to balance out the fact that you can get up to 9(?) of them all dealing damage and generating aggro after all. It gives me more to do in combat as well, which is always welcome. The only summoner I’ve made so far is fairly hands-on with tossing out debuffs and the like, and even then I still feel like I’m barely taking part in combat - I wouldn’t want something even more passive.

You never know though, there’s always the god of Mythicals to pray to - you might get perma-skellies one way or another.

This could also be a job for a transmutor.

Bones of the Eternal:

+10% Total Speed
+20% to all Damage
Skeletons no longer expire
