How can you join Death's Vigil if Varuuk refuses to speak to you?

Every time I try to finish in the “Seeking the Order” quest by speaking with Varuuk I get him telling me, “I want nothing to do with you so long as you meddle with people who ally themselves with Kymon’s Chosen.” The problem is that I have no clue what’s going on with that.

I’ll freely admit to having fiddled with the character with GDStash a bit as well as using a home made mod that alters skill point gain, and also somehow prevents gaining devotion points when I restore shrines, but I’ve never seen anything like this before. I’ve never had similar issues with joining either faction.

For that matter, so far as I can tell based on both the game and GDStash the only factions I’m “meddling with” are Devil’s Crossing, Rovers, Black Legion, and Homestead. For that matter I had to use GDStash to set the Order to Friendly and Kymon’s Chosen to Hostile because the quest didn’t seem to do it automatically.

On the flip side, if I speak with the representative for Kymon’s Chosen I get the “You’re right, it was a mistake” option and can get the quest to join them no muss, no fuss, and no more having having two NPCs with one gold ? and one grey ? over their heads.

Aaand the only reason I’m not posting this in the Bug Report section is because I don’t actually know that this is a bug and it isn’t self-inflicted thanks to the mod, editing the character (because it can’t gain devotion points, was somehow flagged as main/non-modded, etc.), and/or just good old-fashioned doing stuff out of order.

Well, if you’ve been changing your character in GDStash it sounds as if something screwed up on those two factions along the way when you tried to change them. It’s not really necessary to do that anyway because you can always change your choice on the next difficulty providing one of your masteries isn’t Necromancer.

All I can suggest is try without a changed character and see if the same thing occurs.

And why would you not what to get devotion points?

this happens if you play MP with someone that is allied with Kymon, or set your reputation to positive with GDstash i think

thing is, changing rep with ex GDstash doesn’t give you X quest/allow to complete it, because the quest had a specific initial quest trigger - as such your quest lines are tied to whatever initial trigger you chose, not the reputation state you tried to flip

Pretty much what I was expecting and dreading needing to do. All of my characters are either “haven’t finished Act 2” or “already chose a faction.” >_>

Presuming you’re asking why I wouldn’t want to get devotion points, that’s the rub. It’s an issue with the mod I made and am using.

Also turns out I figured out what the issue was. I made a third mod doing the same thing from scratch last night and finally checked it, and it showed one of my characters having 7/55 devotion points with the new mod and 7/1 devotion points with the old mod. Looked around a bit more and found that the maxDevotionPoints field was left blank in my original mod for some reason.

I’ll just chalk that one up to a WTF moment because I have no idea how that could have happened except that maybe I made the mod before devotion points were a thing and somehow that persisted through everything else. /shrugs

I don’t play multiplayer, and I had to change my rep with GDStash because the game didn’t do it when I selected the option to join them. I got the quest, went to the right location, and when I tried to enter it the game spat out a “don’t have a high enough reputation” message. That’s when GDStash came into play.

Oh, I know. The thing is that I only changed reputations after the quest acceptance failed to initiate the appropriate reputation changes. It’ll do all that just fine with Kymon’s Chosen though.
