Monster Infrequents - items that can drop from specific monsters.
no , at least not all sets are created because of community feedback
sets partially correspond to some sort of ingame world/lore, named after characters in the world, be it gods, or heroes etc
devs then centre the stats and build focus around the set for whichever skills they deemed worthy of a specific boost, or alternate playstyle
ex being Ulzin set that does demo bombs, like most of the Ulzuin references that has something to do with fire dmg
Ultos set that does lightning dmg and boost primal strike etc
itâs all very âthematicâ in name and references, and their skill support is very direct and deliberate
itâs not just âsum guy made a build using X skill, people upvoted it on reddit, devs made a set for itâ, give the devs and game a little more credit, there is an idea behind most of it, even meme skills have intentions, and not just based off whatever is trendy
you donât need to read about other peopleâs builds to utilize a set, or see a setâs potential
you just need common sense to see what the set either directly suggest, like Belgo set that suggests melee pierce auto attacker is very obvious
or some creativity mindset to see what a set does, then take it in another direction it might not directly support but still indirectly boost and be useful for, this would ex often be the case with conversion pieces, ex using Fessterblaze not because of Ravenous Earth, but because it converts acid to fire and lets you use other acid skills as fire dmg skills, or Ocatvius was often used just for conversion and supporting phys dmg, regardless of the set skill intentions
then you have general utility sets, which can be used in either a couple different ways because they support a skill, but doesnât force steer you towards something specific other than that, or it could be about a dmg type and purely passive boosters like 2 or 3piece set bonus - which is often utilized, which is often the case with elemental dmg set, since they can do fire or cold or lightning, or you have general alround strong set like Justicar that was often used on several fire builds just to obtain 2 or 3p bonus. Bonemonger likewise being used on different builds and even different dmg types because has some potential use for aether or elemental dmg types, particularly builds/weapon attackers that then want attack speed or phys res
and ofc âtrueâ alround sets like sr set that just supports all dmg types and all skills equally, at the cost of not having any skill modifier, which you then have to find elsewhere
ofc it does, this is very intentional, youâre not supposed to use low level sets for endgame, youâre supposed to use high level sets/endgame sets, ie sets lvl 80 or higher
brimstone got effectively replaced by flamekeeper set iirc
like Medea said, Monster Infrequent, specific items dropped by specific monsters, item will usually have some sort of name relation to said monster or visuals to that affect
generic rare (double rare)
vs same affixes on an MI item
crap rare legs, with magick prefix
vs 2 diff MI legs, same affixes
wortless rare belt
vs MI stonks belt, same affixes
see the difference?
regular rares have a common base item, which have 0 stats, and gets all their stats from the affixes, however, MIs can get the same affixes, but an MIs base item is rare, so by default it will always have more stats, and extra properties on top
then you can craft several slots of items, belts gloves boots, legs, so even for slots that donât have MIs, like boots or gloves, you can craft better items than the rares that can drop, again simply because of teh base item having innate native stats before the affixes on top
Yea, that is a lot of hours but itâs much less than others I have come across. Regardless we all divide our time differently and games are but one way to help occupy that time in an engaging and enjoyable way.
Again agreeing with @Gnomish_Inquisition even if I only use 2-3 pieces of a set for a build I can still get some very unique properties and boost stats more than I could with any other individual pieces. There are also builds I have and use that use individual pieces from multiple sets well.
As for the number of characters I have, there are currently about 750 of them.
Some of those are almost identical but have a very slight difference and because I have so many I usually load up Ashes of malmouth to go to the letter that I need and load in Forgotten Gods to get the build I want. This is easily done with @powbamâs GD switcher!
Thereby saving time and CPU from having to load all those characters near the last one that I used.
While I can understand why you might never want to look at other peoples builds I would actually highly recommend it. The only time I went without looking at a single build was the first 500 or so hours that it took my first character to get to 100 and complete all of the quests, minus a few side quests that got overlooked. Since then and even now I constantly checking others builds. They will often inspire me to try something new myself. Or they will possibly show me a new and different angle to try with a build I had made that is similar in the past.
Yep, Makes sense. Now I understand. Yea Green MI is what I meant because regular greens basically suck.
Maybe with tons of hours invested and lots of builds I would see the value in sets more than I do now. I have almost 200 hours but my first character isnât done and my 2nd one is lvl 42.
750 characters? did you copy paste the data for some or did you literally play 750 characters through the game? I imagine they are all different levels and not all are 100âŚ
A bit of both and youâre correct not all are 100, 99% of them are. Have a handful of lower mid levels that I use to join random games from time to time when Iâm not in a respec.
People are not talking about farming in order to play the campaign on Ultimate. Any half-sensible build with any clown shoes gear can do that. As campaigns in ARPGs go, Grim Dawnâs is very much on the easy/casual side.
What do you mean by âjoin random gamesâ?
Join them where? I havenât ever really seen servers up for multiplayer⌠I hosted a bunch for friends back when we all played but we didnât see other peoples servers.
What for then? I went to the max level of crucible and already went to Shattered realm level 60 and my character isnât even done⌠what else is there to do?
SR 60+ ?
Celestials
Celestials? I already reached SR60 before I was even level 90⌠my character is much stronger now with better gear.
I havenât tried to go beyond SR60 as I took a break from the game for a while, had a rough year with moving. Recently started again with my hard mode campaign⌠I have done almost all the side quests at this point in time, at least all the ones I could find and a few others I found on the wiki.
Thereâs usually a whole list of 'em.
âŚmost tend to lock their servers and play with friends but still.
I donât see anything⌠my eyez see what I want to believe in.
Ah I think it was because we had it on Cruicible. Maybe it was only searching for Crucible servers⌠we did see a few here or there but that was it.
one server is called Big Dick Club while another is called Small Wieners Only. Grim Dawn truly has something for everyone
On topic, I selected Targeted Enemies because Iâm trying to find those elusive triple rares that have an actually useful affix combination.
Totems and MIs only. SR and Crucible hurt my soul and Iâll never touch them. Actually totems are new to me as I just got back into the game again and they werenât in the last time I played, but they are a lot of fun. Maybe they arenât as efficient as SR farming, but Iâd rather have fun than be efficient. Iâm glad Crate added a new method for loot finding that appeals to me. I can finally play the game with a character post level 100.
I love the Totems, lots of nice loot drops. Just adds to the replay-ability and gives you something to do when revisiting older areas on side quests.
