How do you most often farm for gear?

Curious as to how we all regularly farm for gear.

200 Characters 3 difficulties each? Oh, and SR!

i have real bad RNG with totems, and since i generally have builds capable of SR, or can set a new SSF build up relatively quick to be SR capable, i dont’ really bother with totems - tho i do recommend them as potential beginner farm, for people that dont’ have the same foundation to get SR farming as i might

Totems, for me, are good for Epics, because SR doesn’t spit out a good ratio of Epics, and if you try to lower SR where you do get some Epics your Legend ratio suffers too much
i have this “gripe” with Totems where they rely on their spawns for potential MI luck, and sometimes/“often” you just dont’ get any MIs from the spawns, and the totem itself doesn’t spit any out
then the biggest issue i have, is tho that it potentially spits out a decent amount of Epics, Epics are apparently not included in the duplicate reroll system, so even to try and farm specific epics (looking at you blightshard ammy), it’s just a huuuge RNGfest, resulting in a bunch of annoying duplicates on top no matter how you approach it…

I checked crucible recently and saw no open lobbies, maybe like 5 to 7 private ones from all difficulties around the globe.

However I saw a potential buff to loot at the end in the next update specifically for crucible mode so I think that’s all fine and dandy. It is a high possibility that I will play it from the grave again… crucible that is.

Every now and then there’s a message on Discord in which a player claims to be loving Crucible.

Depends on the type of gear - MI’s / special legendaries - target farming / area farming, legendaries - Totems (the advantage of leveling builds are lots of totems on the way) and SR (also for the potential MI’s)

Where’s the GDStash option in that poll? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good point! Will add~
Hmm… but seems that I can’t!

thats ruins fun

your question was “farm” - not “get” - your gear :innocent:

Yeah, sadly polls can only be edited within 5 minutes of them being posted on the forum.

SR 60 is my way, best feeling of playing simple build that can farm SR60/61 consistently and see all the purple drops.

Until I found GDStash…
…and grimtools…

SR 65-66, plenty of loot and faster and more reliable than 75-76 for most of my chars.

I don’t typically farm for gear at all… but I have done plenty of Crucible and Shattered realm and had really nice drops. I actually feel that most farmed gear is trash and the sets are all trash. I looked at so many of them and had no interest in really any of them… so I just do my own thing.
I’m sure some people will be upset by this but like… it just is what it is. Most of the Legendaries are also pretty bad with a few exceptions. I have over 100 of them now mostly due totems and stuff and I only use 3 of them and have 2 set aside for my 2nd character… I have to put msot of them into GrimStash now because I filled my entire storage with legendaries I just have no reason to want to use.

considering how many endgame builds uses sets and legendaries, you sure you’re not just basing your perception of their poor stats on your individual char, instead of the actual item potential?

I’ve never looked at a single build and never intend to.
The overall stats of all the legendaries I have acquired are just trash compared to other blues and even greens… I’m sure there are some sets I haven’t seen but of the sets I have pieces of; I am not sure why I would want to trade the stats I already have for much worse stats from a legendary set… FYI I have no set at all and switching to a full legendary set would make my stats go down. I even tried it on the pieces I had of a few different sets.
Maybe they work better for other character builds I haven’t done yet but I have a fire/mixed elemental based Defiler and haven’t found any sets that would make my character stronger.
I have been playing through the hard difficulty and its literally a walk in the park that I play casually… my character is level 95 and has ~200k DPS and is near unkillable outside of a few specific scenarios.

so the answer to my question on whether or not you’re merely looking at items in relation to your specific individual char was “yes”?
if you look at items in relation to their actual potential, not whatever toon you’re running, you might see things different

GD actually has sets for fire defiler as it so happen to be, ofc those sets also lean towards certain theme, which wouldn’t work as well if you were ex a weapon attacker instead of a caster, tho could be made to work
tho, depending on the attack focus, it might have other fire or elemental sets useful for those specific skills

usually how campaign goes

sets are more than just the individual stats, it’s often the sum of its parts, be it either a partial set bonus obtained, or unlocked potential/modifiers on the full set bonus

yea no, legendaries and sets have more stats than blues, in particular they have skill modifiers which is often what makes builds strong
as for greens, if you’re talking about regular greens, that’s a hard no again, basic greens are worthless in GD,
but if you’re comparing MIs then it makes sense since MIs are basically on par with legends, or better, since they have skill modifiers too, and if you get a double rare MI it can total more stats than an individual legend

Thanks for the input. Always interesting to hear about players habits and thoughts surrounding the items in the game. I do have to concur with strongly with @Gnomish_Inquisition though on his valid points about the standalone epic/legendaries & sets. While any random item regardless of rank can be 100% useless for any specific build. The fact that it can be the key to another builds success is why I continue to farm for gear. Obviously I’m familiar enough with the more popular items/set after 4600 hours played.
But every once in a while I’ll still come across an item that I’ve never seen used nor have I tried to use it myself. That is where I find the most fun now, making new and unique powerful builds that have never been thought up let alone shared before! Recently I came across Mythical Aldanar’s Vanity and soon jumped into grimtools to see how I might go about putting this item to use best~ The result is an amazingly powerful build that is both fun and interesting to play!
Best of luck to your defiler on whatever they end up becoming~

MI is what? Because I have greens with Skill modifiers that have more stats than Legendaries lol
Is this “MI”?

As you mention; sets lean towards certain themes I guess. Since I don’t care for reading about other peoples builds as it would make the game boring; my guess is that sets are based on popular builds that people have shared or upvoted in the community here and this is why I mostly think they all suck.
I have 2/3 pieces of the Brimstone set (non legendary) and while I have the 3rd piece; putting it on offers less stats especially due to the levels of the items.

4600 hours is quite alot, I don’t think I could ever reach that number of hours playing any game… heck I would be surprised if basically all my games on steam were much past that number over the past 10y.

How many character builds do you have?
