How do you save modified vanilla particle effects?

I am trying to make a mod that allows you to increase/decrease the amount of blood shown on weapon impact and kills. My plan to do this is to overwrite the blood effects themselves. However I can’t seem to access the FX files because they are encrypted. I can modify, but not save them in the right file type or place them in the FX folder. I can only save new particle effects.

Is modding really this limited or am I missing something?

What?

Nothing is encrypted in the game files as far as I’m aware. Which file are you trying to load?

Edit: Here’s the Gore Explosion, I believe:

That’s one of the files I am trying to modify.

I cannot access the FX folder because it’s an ARC file, normally when presented with a file type windows cannot open, I download a program or two specifically to open that file. I just can’t seem to get in there to overwrite the files I modified.

And then that leads to the modified files themselves, they save in “Personal Information Exchange” format that Includes nothing and is 1kb in size. I can’t change the format or even save the effect I was modifying in the first place.

None of this was covered in the “How to use the PSEeditor” guide which makes me believe the problem is somewhere on my end, but if I’m not mistaken, Titan Quest uses the same editor, which I never had problems with.

Have you extracted the files with the Asset Manager?
That’s mentioned in: Guide: The PSEditor.

Yes, I still can’t access ANY files at all. All still encrypted in ARC format.

I should add, I can see and modify textures in PSE editor but can’t do anything after that. Can’t save them in the FX folder because it’s encrypted, so modifying vanilla files I guess is impossible.

Then there must have been some error in the extraction process. All files in .arc’s and .arz should be extracted into their appropriate folders, and for particle effects you should be obtaining some .pfx files.

The tools Grim Dawn provides give you the power to edit every sort of filetype associated with the game other than .msh’s.

Is there a problem extracting on AMD systems or something? Few people I talked to seem to be able to extract just fine, the only difference in systems is I’m the only one with an AMD card.

This is funny, the mod I want to make would probably take 5 mins tops but I’m hitting every problem possible.

Perhaps if you can tell us the steps you took to extract the files, someone may be able to find a problem.
