How does the new loot filter work?

New version on GoG so i can finally test the new loot filter. I’d like to know how exactly it works when you select some categories in all the “advanced” groups, especially whether it’s AND or OR filter.

From what i remember from Zantai’s post in some Misadventures, i thought it would be an “OR” filter. For example if i choose to show Epics and Legendaries and nothing else in the “Quality” section and then select “Offensive Ability” and “Defensive Ability” in the Character section, i thought the filter would show me every Epic and Legendary and also items of lower quality that have an OA or DA bonus.

Upon checking thought, it doesn’t work that way. I was curious and hit alt at some point after opening a chest and noticed an “Officer’s” mace with +50 OA that wouldn’t show with the filter despite OA being selected unless i also select to display items of Rare quality. But stranger yet if i select to display Rare items and unselect OA in character (while keeping DA selected), it will show me that mace even thought it doesn’t have any DA bonus. I originally had selected some damage types but also checked without any damage type as well as every damage type and it doesn’t change the fact that the mace only appears, and always appears, when i have the “rare” quality selected.

Also, i don’t really understand the reason behind the “Always Show Uniques” setting when the description says that it will show you every Epic and Legendary and you already have an option to show Epic and Legendaries. Does it do anything that selecting both Epic and Legendary doesn’t?

Finally, for a practical example, what should i select do to display every Epic, Legendary and MI as well as every item that has either a Cold damage bonus or an OA/DA bonus?

EDIT : another test this time with resistances when there were 3 rare items on the ground, one of them without any resist bonus. With rare unchecked in quality, none would show, with rare selected all 3 would show. Looks like settings under character don’t work at all.
I checked the “type” category and it does work as expected : unchecking “accessories” hid the ring.

Maybe this should go to bug reports instead of here :undecided:

I have still not being able to get the new loot filter to work properly.

I always see purple crafting material

And if I alt-tab the loot filter gets disabled.

Thanks medea for the link. Somehow i had remembered those the other way around  Now it makes sense : first two categories are AND while last 2 are OR

malawiglenn : i tested the components and they do not show if i uncheck “components”. Only the light purple components still show (and even show when i disable the display with “k” key). Those are also quest items so i guess the new filter has been created to always show quest items on purpose in order to avoid complains that “quest items don’t show” from people who disabled the components display. Kinda makes sense even if it would be better to have a selectable option “always display quest items” like “always show uniques”. Would also be nice if we had “always show monster infrequents” for those who want to filter rares but collect every MI.
Overall the new filter is a huge improvement. Could it be improved further : certainly. Could it be made perfect : no, at least not while keeping it user friendly. There’s a reason why entire books have been written on RegEx and professional databases use a dedicated scripting language to search anything.

Not sure why you have troubles with alt-tab. Works fine on my computer so far. I even made some silly tests such as alt-tabbing without first pausing the game and it didn’t mess with the filter :undecided: Wish i had an idea to help you cause it must be frustrating and if it’s a bug that only affects a few people it might be hard to fix.
