This goober decided to show up in the middle of a Callagdra battle. I didn’t beat any other enemies while fighting the superboss, so it must be some kind of timed countdown.
Thankfully, the Dread decided to… walk away and hang out in the middle of the basin so I could focus on finishing Callagdra before taking on the Dread. It was very courteous and respectful.
This happened to me too. But unlike your case, it chased me as I run around. It was still okay because Calla arena is pretty big.
But it also happened to me during Crate fight. I instantly died. If I was playing hardcore I would be really mad. Crate is already a gimmick fight because of small crates filling the small arena. Having Dread with its goop filling the floor on top of that feels really unfair.
According to the screenshot, Callagandra was wearing “Dreadmaker” Footpads.
Coincidence?
Well, okay. Yeah. Definitely a coincidence. But still, if I were superstitious…
Bad jokes aside, seeing all these stories I’m starting to wonder if an option to disable the Dread wouldn’t make sense. Perhaps an inverse of the altar option that lets you spawn it on low difficulties.
When farming normal terrain, fair enough. Even if you cannot beat it you can avoid it.
But having it pop up in superboss fights indeed seems rather unfair.
Basically, you would need lightning reflexes (which I lack, that is why I play ARPGs, not shooters) and guess when the damn thing is doing its glowing red swipe attack on your pets, and quickly move them out of the way. Damn near impossible while the thing is running after you (It usually ignores pets except when getting back health this way) and shooting the instakill ball at you, or navigating your pets outside the creep damage area of its ball or vomit attack. And yeah, my Beastcaller Conjurer can survive the Dread, it never killed me, but the most I got it down to is 40% health and then it gets back to 100% in like 2-3 swipes. It just feels unfairly huge how much HP it can get back this way.
Tells us HOW, please. Like, how do you avoid the Dread healing back to 100% after you spend 5 minutes getting it down to 50% HP? Inquiring minds want to know.
My pets eat Kubacabra or Lokarr in seconds. They can damage the Dread too albeit slower, but it is all in vain if it can just easily heal itself before I can react and get my pets away. If his 10000% life leech swipe had a longer animation, same as his earthquake or ball attack, I might be able to do it. But not as it is now.
I’ve made a post recently talking about the same thing.
Currently playing with a minion focused Cabalist and have seen The Dread healing itself by over 10% on a single swipe of that glowing red swipe attack.
It’s very hard to spot when it’s going to do this attack, and it’s almost impossible to make it not hit my minions.
For me the heals were more noticeable probably 20%, and it starts doing them once it gets down to 50%. And it does not stop after that, so it will try to use this every time afterwards even if it is at 80%.
Only way I’ve been able to make it not heal a lot with that attack is either when it rarely decides to target me instead of my minions (and when I’m not too close to them, so I can just Evade since I’ll see it walking towards me), or when it targets a minion that’s not too close to others.
Other than that, it’s 10+% of healing everytime it attacks with it, to the point where I just gave up the fight some times already.
I just got done with another attempt at the Dread, this time with a Fire Skeletons build. I hurl Blackwater Cocktails and Thermite Mines. I got him down below 40% before I teleported into a pile of goop. But it never did the amazing healing.
With my Ritualist, I was getting too close. So maybe I’ll try again…
Same here. I tried fighting it four times, 3 of these times it spawned inside a challenge dungeon (so no teleporting out), and I did not die, I just gave up eventually. One time I fought it for 10 minutes in the Bastion of Chaos where it sometimes got a bit distracted by all the spikey obsidian outcroppings, but even so I could not avoid it hitting my pets with its leech attack.
I think it is tough enough as it is, if the leech would be reduced to a manageable amount, meaning that I could damage it faster than it can heal back, I would have killed it already.
I bet ranged builds have little problem with it, if they manage to lure it to somewhere you can move without issue.
Btw, would like to see what Ulgrim would do to the Dread, if it spawned when he was out in front of the Sanctum of Flesh!
Do Calla and Dread ignore each other?
I was kinda hoping to have them fight each other just for fun - I doubt either would win due to their mechanics.
Cheers
Basically avoid fighting in the pool and it should be easy. Facetanked everything else. It can also be made to “dance” like ravager due to its large hitbox and is quite weak if you do that.
I am trying to get it to spawn with cally so that I can fight both at same time but spawn rate seems too low, even with 5x bonus at the altar.
Mayaaa, we got a fuqing borderlands boss ovah here. I don’t wana spoil anything but seems like we finally got some challenge even for most dreaded players like us.
It’s super duper secret quest. Deepest as it ever is… at first you get introduction next you see u deal nothing and then look at grimtools: 104% all resists…
