No need, a guide’s up already.
Ty, ty. Time to see how tough it is ![]()
Met the poor thing on my lost souls Cabalist. I think Dread’s AI needs another pass, because having to deal with 14 skeletons just completely lobotomizes it. It gets stuck in the crowd and barely even attacks anything.
How much armor did you have? I got hit for ~20k hp when Dred was buffed from dungeon modifiers. I cannot face tank it without Mark of Torment being active
.
Btw thx for your pet builds.

Sometimes, just f**k the Dread. Spawned in the Hungering Darkness on Ascendant while I’m trying to clear the trove. No escape and too much shit going on to avoid it. Ruined. So much fun having to restart the whole session again.
Spawning in RL dungeons: 0/10 do not recommend.
Had this happen more times that I care to remember. Since none of my characters are legitimate threats to the Dread, I’ve been disabling him until I can get some upgrades.
Since this Super Boss is so new, I’m sure it will go through some tweaks.
That’s why I’m so pissed. My character could probably just barely take it down with some space, but in an RL dungeon closed off area like the Hungering Darkness with Guardians, Scions and those bloody worm things that reduce your damage I had no chance and couldn’t just run away.
Yeah…I had an “incident” where I was getting a quest item from Sylvarria. After first entering the lair, I was hit by a Nemesis. Before it was killed, the Dread showed up. Since I had a pet build, there was absolutely no room for any of us, so I ran for the final area, where I thought I could escape. But it just went right through the barrier, along with the Nemesis.
Thankfully I’ve only been playing softcore since the v1.3 patch hit.
I find the Dread to be dreadfully disappointing in the loot it drops
compared to how hard and long the fight usually is.
I’ve killed him multiple times on Ascended and not once gotten an
item that was worth the fight, and it’s gotten to the point where i simply
skip or ignore Dread when he spawns because he’s not worth the time
it takes to kill him.
I mean… ATLEAST he could have 100% chance of dropping 2-3 soulfragments.
Had him spawn on me when fighting Mogdrogen v.2, had to kite him away and deal with him first with my pet build. So that Mogdrogen fight took alot longer then I’ve expected.
Has anybody a hint how to disable it? The Sphere in Devil’s Crossing is doing nothing for me, despite a line about talking that it seeks the Master of this world. Even after killing the dread for the first time nothing new.
The fight overall is not to hard with my werraven chaos build but very exhausting, cause i will not try to facetank it with my HC char
That said it took me a few minutes to kill it via kiting.
I got a Quest to travel to Kurnhold after defeating it for the first time. Feels awkward that we have to travel so deep into the game until we are able to use the Altar and hopefully disable the dread with the sphere.
And rushing via Ultimate to Kurnhold is really boring. Have rushed second halve of Epic already (to get Factios to max. and to increase my Loadout for Ascension) and now for the first time (never happens before Asterkarn to me) i have this awkward feeling that Ultimate is way to easy.
So i wanna play Ascending mode but not everytime with the dread (until i have improved my loadout a little bid more), and for that i really have to play through until Kurnhold?
Am i missing something?
I don’t think you can?
The altar in Kurnhold INCREASES the chance to spawn the Dread, it does not disable it.
The quest gives you a bonus skillpoint, so it’s definitely nice to do, but it won’t stop the Dread from spawning either.
There’s an option to disable it. It’s not in the altar but a bucket of chopped tentacle that you can interact with, called Remnant of the Dread.
Yes, but at which point i’m able to do that? See my longer question above. The Sphere is there and now?
For me it offers a Dread/No Dread choice.
Actually killing the Dread makes no difference. The option to switch it off is there anyway.
If you want the skill point then kill the Dread in a lower difficulty and then turn off his spawning.
I don’t want to turn him off at all. But it seems that @NagumoAD is not getting the option.
So uh, where is this bucket? And this sphere that people mention? I cannot find a sphere in Devil’s Crossing, or a bucket anywhere.
Is there something you need to do to make it appear?
You need to be in Ascendant difficulty. I’m wondering, from what @NagumoAD is saying, if you have to interact with it in Kurnhold first, before it appears in other towns. That seems a bit odd though.
