So I crafted Solael’s Decimation relic for my 3rd Grim Dawn character - Doom Bolt conjurer. Had to sacrifice a leg and an arm for this insanely expensive craft. Surely, completion bonus +skills were completely irrelevant useless (+Storm Spirit and +Manipulation), as they always are first time you craft mythical relic. Well, I thought, I have resources right (I did not), I can afford another craft (I could not). One hour of vendor shopping (hopping between DC/Homestead/Secret Vendor buying whatever RNGesus sends but mostly Searing Embers) and one destroyed Legendary (in order to retrieve Haunted Steel) later, I have what it takes to craft it. So I dug deep into my components bank, emptied it, and brought everything I had in my shaking hands to Angrim in act 1. Please, mate, craft me another Solael’s decimation, this time make at least one completion bonus +skill useful. Just one. I am not greedy.
What bonuses are you looking to get? Graceful dusk shows all of the possible bonuses are going to be for occultist. The +1 to occultist is always on the item and the rest,
10% +1 to Blood Burst
+1 to Black Death
10% +1 to Storm Spirit
+1 to Destruction
10% +1 to Vulnerability
+1 to Vile Eruption
10% +1 to Mend Flesh
+1 to Hellfire
10% +1 to Second Rite
+1 to Storm Spirit
10% +1 to Wasting
+1 to Vulnerability
10% +1 to Ember Claw
+1 to Aspect of the Guardian
10% +1 to Destruction
+1 to Infernal Breath
10% +1 to Aspect of the Guardian
+1 to Vile Eruption
10% +1 to Manipulation
+1 to Storm Spirit
Angrim isn’t doing it, that is just what the item is. The other one is relevant because it is a Shaman item.
I crafted it on my druid, but as I said, it’s for my Conjurer. Well, I got the only one combination of skills that does not do anything for my build. Twice.
Re-crafting a relic for the +skill mod alone is very risky. You have much better chances of getting better stats, which you did so it’s not really a waste.
You should always assume that the completion bonus is going to be useless. That way you will be mostly right and when it does roll something good you will be pleasantly surprised (this won’t happen much though).
This should never happen with a super expensive endgame relic. Never.
Anyway, the state of the completion bonus was brought many times on forum. Even with various suggestions. Followed by zero actions and positive end results.
Thus I’m personally completely uninterested to discuss further.
That’s why I save a copy of the character folder to my desktop when I’m about to craft something that will eat a shitload of materials. If I get total garbage, I just paste the old folder in and give it another go. I know some people are super big on being 100% legit all the time forever, but I have shit to do and grinding mats just to take a swing at the pinata isn’t fun for me. I’ll get the mats legit, I’ll trade legit, and I don’t keep going once I get something that looks decent; but if I need a particular completion bonus or am making something with a big enough variance, you better believe I’m gonna play fast & loose with save-scumming. Crafting is just not worth it otherwise.
Well, there is another one that is totally useless to my build (+Hellfire +Mend Flesh). Other 8 ones include at least one skill that I use.
It was obviously a humourous post, I know I can’t be mad at RNG, it’s just seemed totally unreal to get same bonus twice. Now that it has been explained that there are just 10 skill combinations I know that it’s not impossible, but has exactly 1% possibility
EDIT: And yeah, totally broke on components now (at least I have all the pieces I need for now)
Random completion bonus can be so annoying that I don’t even feel like someone is cheating when using some external tool like GD Stash to change it, even though I only remember doing it once.
I remember I had to do it when I crafted a Plunderer’s Talisman (mythical), which is the higher tier equivalent of Marauder’s Talisman (transcendent), but the completion bonus on Marauder’s Talisman made it better than Plunderer’s Talisman, so I had to change the bonus or else all my crafting materials would have gone to waste.
Heh, I’ve cheated and given myself 1,000s of each crafting mat and then made 10 or 20 of a mythic relic one right after another. The Raito of getting a “non-standard” +skills is low.
I did this for components a while ago because I got so sick and tired of trying (and failing) to get enough vengeful wraiths to craft things I needed. Now I’ve got hundreds of them plus ectoplasms, chipped claws, haunted steel, oleron’s blood, you name it. Grinding on random trash mobs on the off chance of seeing a particular component sucks.
I think that this wouldn’t be nearly as annoying if it didn’t take 30 minutes to go through crafting all of the random items and random lower relics you need. The crafting portion takes waaay waaay waaaaaay too long.
