How to access new areas?

This may be a dumb question, but I have no idea how to access new areas in Ashes of Malmouth DLC? Do I need to replay the entire game first before I gain entry to Ashes of Malmouth area?

It’s in the north east part of Burrwitch.Teleport to Warden’s cellar, go outside and go east.

But there is a big crystal there (aetherl barrier), saying it requires some sort of ritual to get rid of it? I read elsewhere that I may have to complete the entire base game (all acts) with character first before I can head there? Is this true?

Have you talked wth Creed in Fort Ikon after you killed the Loghorrean? He gives you something to break the barrier.

So if you are playing with new character, you have to make it to Fork Iron (act 4) in order to get this thing to break the barrier? So it would take a quite a bit of of gameplay with new character to reach the extension?

Yeah, you have to beat Act 4 to reach the expansion areas since the expansion continues the story after act 4.

That would be the point since this is an expansion and not a content update like the Hidden Path.
