I’m a level 65 Druid lightning and cold 6500 dps and Boris keeps handing me my arse. What resistances do I need against this guy?
Show us your character using grimtools. Upload it, make a link and post it here so we can advice you on how to improve.
Boris mainly does Bleed and Physical damage. Get your Bleeding resistances up, get some more armour if possible (armour absorption helps as well) and make sure you have some sustain like Wendigo Totem to recover from hits.
The other option is to ignore him entirely. Boris isn’t required.
Thanks for the reply.
will look to load up on armor and absorption.
Looked at Grimtools but it doesn’t have most of my gear correctly. I have lvl 55 ‘tempest imperial leggings of psyche’ GT has 6 tempest leggings none of which have that level or attributes so pointless.
Grimtools doesn’t know how the item seed value affects stat rolls so it just displays the average value. It’s never going to match your gear exactly, and you’ll just have to accept that.
You don’t have to add items in manually. There’s an option on the sidebar to upload your character file and grimtools will do everything for you. It also shows you where your save file is located if you don’t know when you click the button.
Like Anathema said, it won’t be a perfect replica as your stat rolls on gear won’t be taken into account but it’ll be good enough.
Here is guide on how to upload char to GrimTools https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEASwrQ5C7k
note, the interface for GrimTools have been changed a bit to help with this even more

I’m just curious.
Why do you have that crazy overstacked poison, piercing and bleeding resistance? But you have so low elemental resistance?
And that leads me to another question, what is the point of the gear you have chosen?
– edit –
Don’t your character run out of energy pretty fast with that low amount of spirit?
I’m at a loss what your character is here as you haven’t transmuted Primal Strike, have Shaman’s WPS without an attack replacer/with Primal Strike and have maxed Flash Freeze in Elite.
It would help if you tell us where you want to go with this character (e.g. playstyle and what skills you like and want to use) but for now I’ll offer some pointers regardless.
You want some passive life steal/attack damage converted to health (ADCtH). One of the better/more reliable places to get some is from your devotion - the Ghoul and Toad constellations have some, Revenant too but is harder to reach. You do have Feral Hunger but the low chance to use it along with your low attack speed mean you won’t see it often as it is now.
You want resist reduction to improve your damage. For Lightning you have 3 prime sources - Raging Tempest (the modifier to Wind Devil) and from devotions, Arcane Bomb and Elemental Storm. I recommend working all of these into your character. Resist reduction is important as it acts as a damage multiplier and helps you deal with enemies that are resistant to your main damage type.
Your health is a little low for your level. I generally aim for 100 health per level as a rough guideline, so ideally at Level 65, you want at least 6 500 health. More points into your mastery bar, a few into Heart of the Wild or from gear/components (like Corpse Dust) would help here.
Primal Strike cannot trigger Feral Hunger/Upheaval. These skills instead really shine with a default attack replacer like Savagery as they stack together. I’d recommend picking between Primal Strike (with the transmuter so you can spam it) and Savagery+Feral Hunger/Upheaval for a main attacking skill for now and drop the other. For the record though, if you do want to go Savagery, it is recommended you continue with transmuted Primal Strike while levelling and swap later on as Savagery lacks AoE so is slow to level with whereas Primal Strike is much faster.
Flash Freeze is an odd skill. It is insane for levelling in Normal as it will clear trash quickly but it’s use is arguable going forward in Elite and beyond as it is no longer able to clear screens as quickly as before. On the other hand, you should have a good amount of AoE (such as from devotion/gear procs) and your main attacking skill should be able to cover what Flash Freeze did before by this point so it is often dropped here.
Building off of what Evil_Baka said, you should be able to kill Boris, but there are a few things you could look into to make things easier.
Feral Hunger and Upheaval cannot trigger off of Primal Strike, so either the former or the latter are wasted points.
Get Heart of the Wild (Mogdrogen’s Pact modifier) for more Health. Maxed, it should give you around 1.6k more health.
Get Raging Tempest to seriously beef up your damage potential to kill Boris faster.
Still doesn’t answer why someone wouldn’t already have full in elemental resistance already, its quite basic one to boost already on veteran. A build can survive a lot with a good basic resistance, and even better with all resistance high.
Even if its self found, on the first 60 level you find quite good gear that scales pretty good with the character. And that doesn’t even require farming or anything else. On that behalf Grim Dawn is pretty generous.
And you’re right, spirit is not the only way to get energy regeneration. But it is a way to boost your magical skills, and have enough energy to have big usage without using potions.
But I’m also one of those player that doesn’t stack physique. No need to have million in health if your killing speed is too low. And yes then we can have a discussion about survival.
But I was just wondering in general, because people have a very different way than me to do builds, so it one of the ways to try and get answers to those questions.
Thanks for the input. Haven’t been playing long and only play single player.
Like to hack and slash basically just for fun which was ok on normal but not so effective on elite, and yes I have noticed that freeze doesn’t really cut it as AOE anymore.
The poison resist I hadn’t changed out after the wardens lab.
gear is basically lightning and freeze or high armor, the only decent piece is the greaves. I have only had 3 legendary items drop, the other 2 where a pistol and a 1 hand sword.
Picking up decent 2 handed melee has only happened twice. and crafting usually gives me worse than what I already have.
Fixed skills and devos: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/1NXpKn9N
You need more resistances
For devos: finish Hawk then do Ultos. Bind the Ultos proc to either wendigo totem or storm totem.
For things that procs on crits, bind them to things that hits very often.
If you want him to go after ultos, why not keep flashfreeze when you boost storm pact ?
I would take away maiven sphere of protection, it takes away a lot of damage, and doesn’t really give too much in return that you can’t get through items.
Trozan sky shard could also help, since its cold and lightning and benefits from the chosen devotions.
also mirror of ereoctes its also not the best. if you’re neck deep beyond 3 seconds and have low killspeed anyways, its a waste of points.
Responses in red.
Flash Freeze helps a lot, its stops the wave of attackers for a minute, to get a oversight of what to prioritize and focus on, and stormcallars is more about cold builds than lightning only, it boosts cold and frostburn dmg, its more relevant than only electrocute I would argue. so a 135% boost already there for flash freeze is not that bad, and then boost from ultos with its cold dmg. (180%) boost and some frostburn too. So to exclude cold & frostburn from flash freeze isn’t the best really even though it isn’t a “instant” killer.
And then there is in generel the whole plus to elemental (Again more diversity to your gear and dmg)
And about the maiven sphere, sure but what is better, to stay longer in battle and increase chances of more critical hits, or less time in battle and decrease chances of critical hits? in that regard I think maiven sphere is more a hinder than a help really. a 20% dmg reduction for your own build, that is in this case SUPER focused on very few kinds of dmg (only lightning maybe a bit elemental (but missing fire)) then I think its not the greatest.
Yes, but if you lose mirror of Ereoctes and maiven sphere there is a good chance to make it work with Trozan sky shards.
But of course we all have different play styles, and for me its more about less time in battle the better. Of course no need to be a glass canon, but on the opposite end, no need to be a super tank that can be in battle forever in a two heroes battle with support and regen, and on ultimate then its a long way home in the end, and then the chances of critical hits from the monsters builds up to a non-healthy state.
But no matter what, you’re almost home safe up until ultimate with a relative well balanced build with “on the way gear” if you’re about level 65 or so.
Or you can just charge in and melt stuff with Primal Strike and AoE. No need to crowd control and survey. Past Normal, Flash Freeze stops melting stuff, so it loses it’s lustre.
and stormcallars is more about cold builds than lightning only, it boosts cold and frostburn dmg, its more relevant than only electrocute I would argue.
I disagree. On an attacker like Primal Strike, Stormcaller’s is more for Lightning than for Cold. The Physical->Lightning conversion provides more Lightning damage alongside the flat Electrocute damage. The % damage later on becomes less important - going from 2000% Cold damage to 2135% Cold damage is vastly less impactful than say going from 135% to 270%.
For starters, if your DA is high enough, you won’t get crit. The damage reduction for your character at 12/12 is 8%, not 20%.
You want defenses so you can stand your ground and deal damage. Otherwise, you’re either going to be worrying about your health yo-yoing, kiting (thus wasting time not doing damage) or dying. Ignoring defenses is crazy. You will take damage and need to be able to soak it up and Maivens and Mirror help with that. Mirror can even save your life and will do many times.
Yes, but if you lose mirror of Ereoctes and maiven sphere there is a good chance to make it work with Trozan sky shards.
You are underestimating the amount of support you need to really make Sky Shards shine for end game. Just maxing the skills is not enough and takes away from damage that you could give to Primal Strike. You want to pick one skill or concept and do it well. and Primal Strike spam/TSS both want different things - they won’t mix very well at all.
Thanks guys you have given me a lot to think about.
