hello GD, was wondering how you guys view/compare items. it has been confusing to me so far. i’m talking about stat wise and why is the left one have higher dps and is it worth disregarding the +1 skill? new player here
Best way to compare items is simply try out both. If you feel like you clear mobs faster and/or die less with 1 of those items then you choose that one. At least that’s how I do it 
The main reason why that warmaul has a higher dps number is the +26% attack speed.
But yes, testing them ingame yields the best results.
The best way is to equip a weapon and look at the tooltip of your damage skills on the panel. Just hover your mouse over them. If you see an increase in damage then it is pretty safe to say a new weapon is better. And of course make sure they have equal augments / components or neither.

It depends on many factors and also on the build.
Sometimes you need a special stat to play comfortable (eg. eregen, lifesteal, cdr…)
When you play a caster build +1 to skills is often better while a dps build looks at the weapon damage and speed.
So I also suggest trying it out since it is hard to learn everything just by looking at the weapon card without a lot of experience. Also ctrl (or maybe shift) lets you compare weapons without the component.
Also, keep in mind that +%dmg, like the +73% lightning dmg on the epic mace, affect all lightning dmg. This mean your skills will hit harder. If you just compare weapon dps, you won’t really know the one you’re the best with.
Also, you get that +1 skills in that epic mace that enhance even more your skills dmg.
Finally, you get that 10% on attack aoe… Nice little touch to add.
I’d say the epic mace would clear mobs pack faster and the magic would be faster against elites/boss.
After checking the +/- of both items, you know better what to expect. So when you test both of them, it’s easier to compare them.
