Of course the invaders are very strong, they are far from the weak raiders. Before beta 1.0, we could occasionally encounter invaders with full body steel armor asking us to pay them gold around year 80 to year 100.
In fact, they could appear more often but the game had a bug that caused the weak raiders (usually appearing in the early game) to appear more often in the late game while logically speaking, the later the enemy should be stronger.
Because they are so strong, we cannot fight them in the usual way like we do with weak raiders. To defeat them, you must make the most of the strengths of each type of troop
-
Cavalry has a speed several times faster than the enemy’s speed but is very weak against arrows (compared to enemy cavalry)
-
Spearmen deal extremely high damage to enemy cavalry but have thin armor
-
Heavy infantry have thick armor but low damage
-
Archers deal extremely high damage to enemy infantry (especially when standing on high ground) but very easy to destroy if the enemy is close
The trump card here is the speed of the cavalry. You can use cavalry to stretch the invaders’ formation and disperse them into small clusters to use the advantages of our troop types to break the enemy’s attack. As in the clip above, I used a part of the cavalry to separate all of the enemy’s cavalry and a small part of the infantry from the rest.
The enemy siege engines (Rams, Catapults) tend to charge forward and will be easily destroyed by the remaining cavalry. Then the rest of the force will be infantry that we can easily destroy with archers standing on high ground. If you don’t have a good static defense system, you can use heavy infantry to charge forward while the archers play their strengths.
After destroying the enemy infantry and siege engines, the next problem is how to destroy the enemy cavalry. At this time, the heavy infantry will go forward as tanks to attract enemy damage, then the spearmen and cavalry will charge in after a beat and unleash damage.
The art of war is to use the few to defeat the many, to see the weak to defeat the strong.
