Well maybe not 100% new, but I realized I’m so silly for not thinking of this earlier.
I remembered a poll here about how many people actually use the camera for rotation, and the majority leave it as it is. It’s blasphemy to rotate the camera!!!
Well more like a pain. The only time I start rotating the camera is toward act 3 of elite, when the tactical advantage of being able to see my enemies from further away by having them in the top left corner of my screen actually becomes relevant in big fights.
Then it hit me. I always have had GD oriented perfectly north. What if I oriented it east for a whole run, normal-ultimate on a character? (west, then south!) I’ve been trying it, and man, first of all it’s extremely disorienting for someone who’s run through the game so many times the same way. But it’s also fresh and I get to see more angles of scenes I’ve never taken the time to look at. You could even divide it into eighths (Northwest, west, southwest, south, southeast, etc.).
This is probably obvious to many people here and silly, but I thought I’d do this little PSA for anyone who has been playing the same way for a long time like I’ve been. Give it a try, and push past the disorientation, and there’s a little world of novelty in GD’s angles.
I turned my camera in act 2 because one of the structures was making it impossible for me to target an enemy and i just left it like that. man i felt so lost for awhile.
Sense then i have just randomly rotated my camera before setting off, and it really makes it feel different and it does help making it feel new
It would be cool if the devs added an auto rotate camera mode. I’m sure some newcomers to arpgs would appreciate the camera always pointing in the direction the character faces. Seems like a no brainer to me given how hard they’ve worked to implement a full 360 world.
i thought about this the other day and then realised how annoying it would be when i was turning 180 degrees on my heels with a kiting character.
I do think there’s possible room for camera mods though, even if it’s just turning the sensitivity for rotation up as i think it’s a bit slow at the mo. I also thought maybe one which snaps the cam to N E S W via some input might be good
I played veteran with North orientation, then Elite with South then Ultimate with the camera pointing at whereever I was running upwards. Really made it feel like fresh when moving up in difficulty
