“Skill not ready” - Is what your character says when you use a skill that is on cooldown, I would like to remove that line from the game entirely, how do I do that?
I have no issue with the sound but this specific line that gets tiresome after a while.
Thanks.
Edit: looking at the game files, I see lots of .wav files, does anyone know which one is it? I should be able to delete it.
Alternatively you can also import records/creatures/pc/femalepc01.dbr and / or records/creatures/pc/malepc01.dbr, open them, go to Player Sounds -> Delete path in skillCooldownSound.
Thanks, got it, not sure about the first method, but the alternative method was easy.
If anyone is interested
open asset manager
extract game files
now in your grim dawn database folder, copy records/creatures/pc/femalepc01.dbr or records/creatures/pc/malepc01.dbr whichever you wanna change and, go in grim dawn mods folder, create a new folder the name of your mod, set the exact same path with sub folders database/records/creatures/pc, and place the file above
still with asset manager > mods > select > the folder you just made
right click the right window > import > select the file above
right click the file > edit > Player Sounds > skillCooldownSound > right click and clear the last box that shows the path
file > Save
still in asset manager > mod > build
To merge mods, move the file and its sub folders above in a second mod and build again.
Can anyone explain this a little better? I’m not really following what fe2o3 or Elfe are saying. My main concern is the on screen text. I can turn dialogue volume down to zero. That’s not a problem, but the text display is literally the reason I stopped playing this game.
I went to F:\Program Files (x86)\steam\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Grim Dawn\resources, opened the folder titled “UI” and it was filled with a bunch of hieroglyphic text.
I’m not sure if this is what Elfe meant, but I went to the very top of the text document, hit enter a couple times, and added the line “tagSkillNotReady=” at the very top. This did not work.
I also went to the text_en folder located within resources, opened the text document titled “tags_skills” and put the "tagSkillNotReady= " line in it. I did not forget to put a space at the end in either circumstance.
If you’re running a localization that will prevent you from doing this unless you change the localization file itself.
If not, the easiest way would be to extract game files with Asset Manager (see here) then navigate to your resources folder where the extracted resources are, copy “tags_skills.txt” to c/user/documents/my games/Grim Dawn/settings/text_en/
open it and change the line inside it. This should override the game’s main file though you will have to redo this after every update.
Stick it in your Grim Dawn\database\ folder, overwriting the existing file. (Mind that you rename/backup your existing database.arz first.)
It’ll probably stop working come the next patch, or if you run repair. Also not certain if it works in multiplayer yet (if there’s an integrity check or something, ya maybe SOL). This is also only for the current Steam version of the game as of this post date. (edit: Yes, it works fine in multiplayer.)
It does nothing about the red text, just the voice over for item/skill cooldown warning, but the text doesn’t bother me as much, and it’s good to have some indicator as to why things aren’t happening, I suppose.
I tried setting it up as an independant mod, but that requires you to start over in a new world, so no-go.
Hopefully they fix this come next patch. A soft click or something would be fine, but having a voice over go off, that you can’t turn the volume down on, every damned time, just breaks this game for me. (And warning text like that should really be reserved for more critical issues as well.)
