edit: found out it was just how the game works with controllers is a little wonky, compared to what i’m used to. that i can’t pick up items with a button that’s bound to any skill, of any sort, when a enemy is targeting me
original post:
spent a hour last night trying to figure out how to pick up items when enemies are close by. i’ve come up empty. the enemy doesn’t even have to be close. close to a screen away from me is enough to lock out the ability to pick up items. if i’ve agro’ed them. am i missing something?
i’m trying to loot and run. killing as few monsters as possible. just as a random thing to have fun
Method 1: Click on the name. It doesn’t matter if there are enemies nearby, if you hover over the bar with the name, it will highlight and pick up the item.
Method 2: Bind the Pickup hotkey to sth convenient, press it when you are near the item.
can vouch for this
you can use force move(note move to) to move to the item to click or keybind pickup, force move ignores any enemy where your click cursor
i’ve been using a controller. neither method work with that. i’ve tried grabbing the mouse to pick up the item. which disables the controller. when it switches to mouse controls. either disables the other. it got so cumbersome that i’ve thought of skipping any loot that doesn’t auto pick-up. i’ll likely try the “get gud” method next. until i find out a better one
“move to” skill bind seems to do nothing with the controller. i’ve tried toggling all sorts of options. binding “interact” to a controller button doesn’t seem to help any either
picked up two shrines. that alone got me to level 4. which has helped me be a little less squishy. buying stuff from the merchant has helped mitigate the pickup issue a little. at the Warden’s Mansion now. keep dying before i reach the cellar door
finally figured it out. bound it to the “A” button on the controller in the key bind options menu. and made certain i think it had something to do with how skills work with the controller
haven’t even unlocked the prison yet. have yet to talk to anyone. except for the merchant, to buy and sell stuff. unless the xp boosters are somewhere else, been a few years since i played. just having fun. died twice now near the end of the first floor of the dungeon. only thing that really matters with this character is that i don’t pickup a mastery. as its the character i meant to use to look at skills. when i want to double check mastery combos
XP booster requires 1 char revered with Malmouth faction, gives you xp potion that boost XP sources by 100%
the other part is then using the Merit token that unlocks teleports, teleport to conclave/vanguard/fort ikon as lvl 1 and grab some lore notes, consume the lore notes with XP pot active, instant level up to X
only downside is can’t place lore notes in shared stash, so each char has to portal to get their own lore notes
