The hunter tells me that he has not found any game for a long time. I’ve already changed the area, no success. There are also deer running around there.
I would love this mechanic to change into something such as: “we will hunt for “x” animal ( toggable options ) which is out of FOG or within the explored target area until these run out”.
These “areas of work” makes us invest so much time into baby sitting them.
I wonder if this is game design intended
That widget tends to pop too aggressively, as you can see.
Not sure what babysitting hunters require, unless you are overhunting an area with multiple hunters, in which case yes they will run out of deer to hunt.
I have now found a temporary solution. I select the hunter and command him to shoot a deer. It’s not the best solution, but at least it works.
As long as deer are spawning in the area and you are not overhunting, you can disregard that warning. We’ll fix its appearance in a future update.
Hello there Zantai. If I may, I’d also like to point out my observation regarding the probable cause of this Hunter Cabin “no hunt” notification.
So, with the basic Hunter Cabin, it seems that its storage capacity is around 100ish raw meat (unsure). With that capacity, the hunter would hunt a deer, butcher the carcass for about 50 raw meat + leather & tallow, and it would hunt another deer without transferring that first 50 meat to another storage location. It would only transfer the accumulated meat after the 2nd / 3rd hunt, but not after the 1st hunt.
Now here’s the fun part.
The upgraded Hunter Cabin seems to have much less meat storage capacity. This is quite problematic especially when trapping is enabled. What would happen is: the hunter would prioritize checking a trap, then butcher the small carcass for 12 raw meat + leather, THEN immediately transfers this 12 meat to another storage location.
If the meat storage location is nearby, then it would pose no problem. However, when the storage location is quite far, by the time the hunter returns to the Hunter Cabin, another small critter has already been caught in the trap. The hunter would then prioritize to check the trap again, butcher it and perform the long travel time again. Rinse and repeat, there would be no time for the hunter to normally hunt deer.
I think that is the reason why the OP and many people got the red “no hunt” notification when they’ve upgraded the hunter cabin.
Cheers, and thank for the great game!
I have the same issue. This playthrough, my settlement is still small with 3 hunting cabins. Every one of them are placed in areas with plentiful deer and all three have “no game found” icon and each shows 0 meat produced in the last year whilst the population clamors for food.
I have experienced this issue with each of my other playthroughs to Tier 4. I have also found upgrading the cabin to be problematic. More time is spent on traps (yielding no meat) than hunting game. This at least can be avoided by turning the number of traps to “0”.
Upgraded hunter cabin gets this notification cause it prioritizes trap checking and small caracas doesn’t count as succesfull hunt. So if a hunter brings only small caracas he will always have this mark and the fun part about traps is that they never deissapear (they are indestructible and unmovable) and if You change hunt area the hunter will still go to his traps in the previous one where he set it up. As for transferring goods from my tests they will transfer goods always in this scenarios:
If they accumulate 10 pelts they carry them to storage.
If they have 12 meat (if they have more they won’t transfer goods until storage is full)
if They have 20 tallow they carry it to storage.
Additional note sometimes production buildings including hunter bug out and they stay idle unable to work cause they have full storage and they won’t transfer the goods.
Another note:
If hunter drops small caracas cause he goes to do something else the caracas disappears.
I had the same bug, and I found my problem. I had my town hall oriented in a way where my villagers were unable to access the stock pile of weapons and bows/arrows. Once I moved my cart, the hunter picked up a weapon and started hunting.
