I am producing plenty of food but villagers are starving?

Why do I produce a lot of food, kill 2 cows from the barn, fill storehouses, but the village is starving? Why?? I buy food and still they are starving… why? This is very frustrating.

In my experience, the answer is usually Distribution, not Production.

If the Markets are far away from the Root Cellars, Storehouses and production points, the food will not get to where the population can access it.
IF the Markets only have 1 person in each distributing and gathering (a mistake I’ve made far too often) then the food will not get to the residents.
IF you aren’t converting the food to smoked meat and preserves and storing it in Barrels, a great deal of it will spoil before it gets to the population.

After numerous games building to Tier 4 and struggling all along the way, I’ve come to the conclusion that distributing the food efficiently and rapidly is far more important than producing it in the first place: look at the Travel times for the workers in your Markets holding food - if they are consistently over 50%, and/or your spoilage continuously over 1/3 of your food stored, producing more food will not help nearly as much as putting storage facilities nearer to the markets, increasing market workers and preserving the stored food until your people need it.

what he said lol

Hit F3 IIRC and watch the peeps. See what they are doing you will Know then what the AI is thinking
and thus know for sure if bug or not

Thanks for the tips … I could not figure out after killing 4 cows the people are still needing food, tallow, etc.

Well, to be honest Cows are one of several places where I think the numbers need to be adjusted: they give far too little meat, hides and tallow compared to Deer when you look at the relative sizes of the animals.

On the other hand, having a Cheesemaker as close as possible to the barns and then a storage facility that is the exclusive receiver of Cheese and is right in the middle of town where all the markets have access to it will improve the food situation dramatically once you have a few barns with 30 - 40 cows all sending milk to the cheesemakers.

I think this will happened with 2 reasons:

  • The program does not follow logical thought, where, 1 or 2 market workers only collect the goods from the store within the market range and market worker only deliver goods to the houses within the range. This caused market supply chain overwhelming due to lack of worker
  • Some the data will reset when we load the save game, example, my people’ working efficiency rate (move the mouse point to Left-Top "the capacity of people & existing people, look at last row of small windows) drop from 80% to 16%, or the water reserve rate on the land will change, or the clay reserve increase or decrease over hundreds (even only 1 miner). This phenomenon getting worst when my village have more than 100 peoples.

Solution 1: program the market worker to collect goods from store (and workshop) no matter how far it is (their job is to fill the market at 70% above of food, but in the game the market only have 10%-20% full), and program the children go to market to collect goods back to house (in the game the children are well equip with cloths, shoe, tools & basket but they don’t do anything until declare themselve grow as labour)?
Solution 2: It is glitch on save game.
