After leveling 5 characters to many levels, they were no longer fun to play due to dropping a rift, die run back (lack of gear). Every character running the same zones getting the same piles of yellow gear with greens that are a spec I don’t know. Wait I ran a skeleton key zone at lvl 60 ish elite that almost dropped some exciting gear but I would need to level another character and do those same zones again and then when that gear leveled out well… Now the bank issues from sticking all this green gear plus in there just maybe I get some of the same gear. So much fun spending time fixing the bank, what fun. Sorry but this game goes in the worst I have played for the amount I paid. I played one worse maybe 2 but they were free.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
YMMV. I think this might not be your cup of tea, is all. I’m having a blast, more or less. Some rough spots here and there but it’s mostly me getting sloppy with my gameplay.
I might be misunderstanding what you’re saying but it sounds like ARPGs like this one or other games that feature an emphasis on randomised loot/loot drops (like Borderlands 2) aren’t for you? Have you played any other ARPGs?
That is exactly what i was thinking while reading this post. Probably the op just doesn’t like arpg core mechanics.
Which makes me wonder why they chose this as their way of testing the ARPG waters, and why they apparently came into it blind. I mean, yes, I love GD but I like the ARPG genre and came into it with a rough idea of how things work, and I listened to a lot of peer review before I jumped in. I came in expecting most of what GD would offer and the rest were mostly pleasant surprises rather than nasty ones.
Ok I will put this in point form
- After leveling 5 characters to many levels, they were no longer fun to play due to dropping a rift, die run back (lack of gear).
What this is saying is you don’t understand the game thats why you are dying to much.
- Every character running the same zones getting the same piles of yellow gear with greens that are a spec I don’t know. Wait I ran a skeleton key zone at lvl 60 ish elite that almost dropped some exciting gear but I would need to level another character and do those same zones again and then when that gear leveled out well… Now the bank issues from sticking all this green gear plus in there just maybe I get some of the same gear.
Again what you said here is you not understanding the game, and finding out how arpg’s are. And dropping the same gear no, you are not paying attention that carefully. And the bank issue same as what I said already, you not understanding the game. So you are saving gear that you dont need too, and running out of space in the bank.
- So much fun spending time fixing the bank, what fun. Sorry but this game goes in the worst I have played for the amount I paid. I played one worse maybe 2 but they were free
This is from what I said already you saving gear that you dont have too, which comes from you not understanding the game.
@juggerknot59 - if you would like to give Grim Dawn another chance, please upload a char you would like to continue, but whom you struggle with, at http://www.grimtools.com/calc/ and post a link to your build here, so that we can assist (use the two buttons at the top of thenavigation bar).
It’s fine that someone doesn’t understand the game, but then ask some questions, check out some beginner friendly builds, guides etc. I am playing since the beta or alpha version, always hoarding loot for the different characters, and I can understand that it is a bit hard now to jump in with no collected gear and no game knowledge, especially regarding the different enemy damage types and resistances. If you have no gear, try to farm the faction reputations, and buy the best faction gear which suits your character, and maybe you can progress better then. This game needs some dedication if you wanna make a very good character and even if you wanna complete ultimate difficulty in the expansion.
As far as ARPGs go, I find GD pretty good, if on the harder / more complex side. Loot drops are actually pretty decent too.
So as was said, it sounds like you do not like some of the ARPG core mechanics and/or do not know what you are doing. The latter can be worked on by you posting your build and saying a few things about what you are aiming for.
If player doesnt understand game mechanics, it is not fault of the game. If You are not ARPG veteran, You should read game guide here or on forum to understand whole complexity of the game first. This game is not that easy like Diablo 1 or 2 was. This game is much more complex. More dmg sources, more rezist to maintain, mixing 2 masteries to synergies together also with constelations. I understand, that this game is not for everyone. I felt the same way about Baldurs Gate 2 when I touch it for the first time. I was mostly action shooter player. Few years later I tried it again and it was one of the best RPG experience I ever had.
I have played Diablo 2, Titan Quest, Sacred, Diablo 3 and PoE. Grim dawn is the best ARPG since D2. I like this game a lot. Only mechanic I miss is better multiplayer support like Battlenet for Diablo 2.
See you get it, as my title says I don’t understand.
P.S. Wow That didn’t hit the grammar score very high. Life Mood was low.
The question is, is this something you want to understand better or not? Do you enjoy ARPGs and challenging games? Is this outside of your usual preference? How did you find GD?
Well, first things first:
An ARPG means that you are not only being responsible for damage, but also your defense. Most people totally forget that. If you play your classes in glass-cannon-style and you cant play it, there is no sense doing so.
Then better play some tanky class or rather tanky build, the cleaning speed might be a bit lower, but I can guarantee, you wont be dying much.
Try out something like a cadence/forcewave warrior. It is a stable build, being able to clean everything up to ultimate. And, with better gear, you also do a decent amount of damage too.
Later on, it is also one of the best builds for crucible IMO.
It sounds to me like you just don’t understand the game, or possibly the genre itself. There are some very informative beginner’s guides that you can watch on YouTube. If you are still interested in the game, and would like to learn more about the gameplay so that you can improve, and then hopefully have some fun with the game,I highly recommend checking out some of the vids I mentioned.
I don’t understand life. What’s the purpose of life?
To leave a beautiful corpse.
What would one get for leaving more than one then?
Either prison of death penalty, depending on where you live
Regading the OP, I am not sure what is it the you don’t like. If you don’t like the ARPG genre, there’s not much to do…have you played other titles like Path of Exile, Diablo 2 or Titan Quest before? Did you like them?
If your problem is not understanding the game mechanics, just ask and you will find some people answering your doubts. There are also plenty of guides around in the forum.
Probably, the best thing you could do is try to explain what kind of build you would like to play and together we can think of a way to make it work
