I like hack and slash but not fan of farming, is that wrong?

Hello, i know what i am writing looks paradoxic al, but to me, hack and slash were never about farming.

My first experience in the genre was Diablo, i played it on console becausei had no pc back then, and i enjoyed the game a lot and replaye dit a lot without having the idea of farming for gear in mind.

What frutrates me in the concept of farming is the fact you rely on chance and “rng” and have to make constant runs to hope to get something specific, while in other kindof games, once you know a quest gives as pecific reward, or know where to pick up this specific gun, thats it and that willbe fine for all your runs.

When you keep farming for a specific item it often looks like the game is taunting you on purpose by giving you items you dont want. While i dislike Diablo 3 on many points i enjoyed being able to get my zunimasa set and even in this hns considered to be “casual friendly” it took me lot of time to get it, because no 30 hours post game to get a specific set is by no means easy.

As weird as it can look, it is in fact farming that always makes me hesitate before getting a hack and slash because i always ten to be hold back at the idea of the frustration to endure with RNG.
I hesitated for grim dawn but gave it a luck because of the art and the feedbacks, but now after beating the story, i realize the farming ghost is coming back to haunt me.That rng is something i have no control on, a sort of beast you cannot tame.

You can complete Normal without farming.

I did complete the whole game in fact, in three modes, just wanted to point out the farming point of the game

IMO:

I feel the same way. Have 2000 hours in GD with 400+ toons. Never farmed anything for any of them. I do not even use the stash, if I find something irrelevant for my toon I sell it. GD offers lots of enjoyment without farming. I do not think I have ever even followed a build guide.

When I watch streamers running level 85 toons totally geared and killing everything with no fear of death whatsoever, I fall asleep.

The game is about risk. Farming leads to OP toons that have no risk of death. If I am not afraid of dying, the game really offers little in terms of enjoyment.

Except for the case where you are running Gladiator Crucible solo and you have 2 x Fabius + Iron Maiden behind your ass, buffed to oblivion by some OP mutators.

Yeah, sure, I did not say I can play all aspects of the game this way. And there is that Morgodude in the game that kills me if I get anywhere near his spawn point before I can even see him on screen.

I had a blast with 3-4 player Crucible. But when I finished, I said to myself, I cannot imagine playing that solo. So that is indeed something I have never even attempted.

In any case, there is lots of fun to be had. And there are maybe some parts of the game you will just miss out on without that gear. But it is just a tiny fraction.

Yeah, me too. I guess antisocial ppl have to pay the price here (LMAO) !

Play the game how you want. Farming is not necessary at all to beat the game even on ultimate. I’m not really the biggest fan of farming either, but can do it if I have a specific goal in mind. Unless you find something specifically you want, maybe a relic or item you want to craft, farming just to find legendaries probably isn’t worth your time.

Non farmer here too. I rarely farm in TQ and so far never in GD. I find it so boring after a few runs, I’d rather be progressing through the game than going over the same area again and again. I’ll use loot I’ve already found or do without. Haven’t finished the game yet, but I will with whatever gear I have or comes to hand as I journey through Grim Dawn. For me that’s the fun part, along with trying out new builds. Farming items leaves me cold.

I only farm Nemesis and that’s pretty much at the end of the game. When i’m beating all 3 difficulties i rarely farm.

I never ran the crucible more than once, not that i didn’t like it. I just prefer the main campaign.

But come on, that seems a little too sadistic. 2x Fabius in one wave? Is that possible?

Anti-social people and people who have friends with chicken-shit builds that have trouble getting past Elite Log and Ultimate Cronley

Sure it is. Wave 150 will always spawn three nemesis at once.

Yeah i dont like farm too. What i do is play a character until i can no longer progress without dying to much and reroll a new one, if i find some itens that may be helpful builds i have i come back to then eventually

I’m not much of a farming guy either, but I have to say that repetitive farming doesn’t have to be as boring as I initially imagine. E.G. at one point I did a few Hidden Path runs, with each one boss only costing me perhaps three or four minutes or so. I wouldn’t do this over and over again, but for half an hour it was ok, especially as I had a goal in mind - find some useful legguards.

On the other hand - when you are looking for some specific gear and would have to farm and endlessly farm to get it; that’s no fun for me.
All the better that, after so much time!, yesterday the Allara Starfire hero dropped me the Shield of Perdition that I had waited for so long! At last! =D
