To allow them to somewhat compete with dual classes choices why not make an option where you lock yourself into a single tree but by doing so you get a bonus of 25-50% yield to the mastery bar.
I think it would be cool to play a Demolitionist or an Arcanist instead of the dual variants but they end up really lacking in base stats with the loss of the 2nd mastery.
Yes they will lack in base stats, but they will have more skill points invested in skills and probably max most if not all passives. This will not be able to do with dual-classes
the options are available. just because you lack the willpower not to invest in skills and only stick to the mastery bar of a second mastery is your fault.
What about being able to pick the same class as your second class and able to drop points into that mastery / skills and being able to up them higher than their normal skill level or adding in extra of it.
Maybe a special set of skills that unlock new skills just set for “solo” class builds.
You realize that most masteries also offer a ton of defensive options? I’m not sure about masteries like Demolitionist, but Occultist and Shaman both provide enough offensive/defense options from within the masteries themselves to justify a solo mastery class. You’ll run out of points before you even max out the good stuff.
Every game is different. Grim Dawn brings something a little different than just “Warrior” , “Paladin” and just going with one class.
The possibility to mix 2 classes together just brings that range of diversity to the gameplay.
I understand that you want to just go with one class, and you would be correct in saying you are losing stats, but the concept of the game is to mix classes to create that additional class.
I would just embrace that taking a second class is beneficial, towards your stats, for additional passives, bonus, etc.
The best they can do to promote single mastery classes is to balance each mastery so that they provide enough offensive/defensive skill options for someone who doesn’t want to pick a second mastery.
Which works out alright for everyone.
And any class can reach 10k+ HP with only limited physique investment, even single mastery classes. You don’t need to pick a second mastery just to survive in ultimate.
