Nowadays I only see retal builds take it tho. Maybe we need to see how much the damage is gimped with the overguard nerf before we add this to bulwark - if Zantai does think about it
+1 from me, arcanist needs some serious buffs!!
My thoughts exactly.
I’d take 15% dmg reduction over 12% oa any day. Oleron’s is aiight, but only if you lack movement speed and don’t have enough oa, or is IT. If you got enough oa it aint all that good really, too much oa doesn’t increase damage much.
In the harder content it’s all about effective health(poolsize + reductions to damage taken) paired with leech that is the bottleneck in surviving, and having an easy time.
To give bulwark block chance/recovery would be entirely counter-intuitive to the changes the made take away shield power from the soldier.
But then again i am biased, damage reduction % is my favorite stat in game.
Damage reduction isn’t the same as damage absorption though. It’s a lot less powerful.
EDIT: It’s also not just the OA, it’s the %phys damage and the flat trauma
Not sure if you mistyped, mate, but incoming damage reduction seems like a far more superior option then damage absorption, at least from my experience.
+1 on this idea
There was also some speculation about getting an off-hand transmuter that provided stuff like physical res etc on Maivens.
Oh yeah, that’s what I meant. It’s a lot less powerful = %absorption is a lot less powerful.
Sorry for the confusion
What about keep the damage penalty, but add more offensive bonus to other passives? (Arcane Will, Fabric of reality, IEE tree).
By the way, anyone actually use IEE manifestation?
From the 1.1.2.0 patch notes:
Maiven’s Sphere of Protection: damage penalty is now a static -5% at all ranks. Increased % Damage Absorption scaling at ultimate ranks to 30% by max ultimate rank.
The damage penalty has been increased at ultimate ranks from 18 and up, in exhange for 5% extra absorption. Welp.
I’d say this is an improvement overall, but the lower and upper ranges feel a bit awkward to me.
This is not what community asked for. I would take less damage absorption and no damage penalty over what was implemented any day. In fact, this hurts a lot of builds that relied on 3/12 or 4/12 Maiven.
On some casters is gonna be beneficial. On Spellbreaker melee usually put just point to push it to 3 or 4,so that’s can represent problem.
Oh, this time Mavin’s change is bad.

I strongly request the past suggestions again.
To be fair that is still straight buff(if quite small) for a number of builds. At 12/12 you would have 3% less damage penalty and at 12/17 you have 3% more absorption.
Edit: The larger problems is indeed the 3/4 skill point investment as that is straight up nerf to these builds.
I would also suggest a reduced Absorption amount while removing the damage penalty via a Transmuter.
for example:
~30% reduced Absorption, no penalty to damage
or ~50% reduced Absorption, +x% Total damage
So that we can choose our degree of defence like we can with Markovians Advantage.
I run an Aether Battlemage that works pretty well, but certainly doesn’t have over the top damage, he uses 22/12 Maiven’s which I specifically built for so I could get rid of the damage penalty on Maiven’s. This patch is a punch in the gut for builds that actually put heavy point investment into Maiven’s. Please reintroduce ultimate ranks eliminating the damage penalty like it used to.
