[IDEA] New Class Suggestion - Genie

Enjoying Grim Dawn and its class diversity, however exploring some thoughts on a class that might bring a bit of a different playstyle.

Not sure if there are any class/es announced for Forgotten Gods, but in that spirit I was thinking of a class called Genie.

The basic premise and playstyle is one of mind control and supported by temporary pets, with no other direct damage.

Some skill thoughts:

  • Mass Confuse: an AoE with a chance to confuse. Use like Curse of Frailty. Added points into this tree can increase range and duration

  • Dominate: a single target mind control spell. Converts the target into your (temporary) pet. This would be the main skill tree for this class. More points along the tree can allow for higher level enemies to be controlled, along with added health, damage and duration. Otherwise pet has the same attack skills of its original self. I am thinking pet DOES NOT scale with either pet or player bonuses, and can only be buffed via this skill tree (for balance). Only one Dominated pet at a time. Certain bosses etc can’t be Dominated

  • Cast Elemental: this is the secondary tree of the class. It allows for the summoning of either a Fire or Cold elemental. This is to provide some diversity depending on fight (are you fighting cold-based creatures? Then summon a Fire Elemental to counter). Points along this tree can also determine whether the Elemental is melee or has ranged spells. The point of this is flexibility when blending with another class (are you trying to be a mage-type build? Then maybe a melee Elemental is better suited for you). Further points improve health/damage and duration. This pet would likely scale on Player bonuses and is similar to a wind devil or blade spirit, except the duration is longer and its movement speed and attacks are similar to a normal permanent summon

  • Mesmerize: a single target magic-based stun for a short duration; should be able to work on most bosses as well (naturally needs to be balanced). Additional points here can improved level of creature able to be stunned, and duration.

  • Mind Power: this could be a passive that improves effects of Mass Confuse and Mesmerize (chance of success and duration)

  • Invisibility: short duration Invis where enemies cannot target you. The “get out of jail” skill for this class. You will still take damage from AoE effects but can move freely. Attacking immediately breaks the effect. Points added here can improve duration and perhaps movement speed. Needs to have a reasonable cooldown.

The idea here is to create an “active” pet playstyle build that needs to control the playfield, select how to best damage depending on fight using the selection of pets, and be kinda pesky and slippery via Invisibility. Other classes won’t have a lot of synergy with skills as such, but blending some of the above skills with existing classes could give some interesting flexibility and plug some holes.

Nice. It should be one of 2 new masteries for game IMHO.
