It would be really nice if a special tab was put into the shared stash just for components.
Features of the tab would need to include:
A button to take all components out of my inventory while simultaneously combining them.
A layout that put components into different categories automatically based on what items they can be applied to.
Sorting your tab that has components in it puts them into alphabetical order instead of into an order that makes sense. They need to be categorized and it seems like the best way to do that is to design a stash tab that contains a space for each component in the game and that the space it uses be part of the same category of component.
If I could just open my stash, change to the component tab, press a button, and have things taken care of, that would be great!
As it is right now, there are too many components for there to be no organization options. Manually organizing them shouldn’t require insane amounts of tedious effort.
Dedicated components stash has been asked for several times, whether it’ll ever happen …
Easiest way atm is to remove all partials into your inventory and then hit the icon to move the rest - this will put them into alphabetical order. Then put the partials back again.
While everything what you suggest would be great to see in GD some day I can assure you that the more you play the more you will be able to distinguish components at a glance just by their icons. And btw you can hover the mouse over a piece of your gear and any components suitable for that slot will be highlighted (holding down CTRL while you do so will temporarilty hide the item’s description window so it doesn’t block the view).
I’m aware of those features and appreciate the response. After 491 hours of gameplay, I’m afraid I have to disagree with you that I’ll distinguish components at a glance though. They’re simply too small and too numerous to do so that quickly.
I once sorted them out by type but accidentally sorted them and haven’t bothered since. That helped a lot, but having accidentally sorted them back to alphabetical, I can’t bring myself to sort them out again.
All components fit in a single tab in shared stash and can be organized by type and then alphabetically. Many components are multifunctional so further categorizing would be problematic. IMO creating a separate tab would be redundant.
I agree with one-click transfer thing. The auto-combine button should automatically transfer all components to the open stash tab. Because… why not?
I would love to see it done something like this, but where each stash slot was dedicated to a specific component that was organized into a place that makes sense:
I realize I don’t have every component in the game in my stash right now but it isn’t that difficult to sort them by type, even if some of them overlap a bit.
Another option would be to change their background colors to something that was specific to each component type/family. I think that gets more difficult since they have multiple applications, but it wouldn’t be too difficult.
If it were entirely up to me, there would be no partial components and instead of being a physical item they would be more of a currency like iron bits (and would be auto pick up). Right click on an item to see all components in a list which that item can take, if a component is not available then it is grayed out.
That’s a brilliant idea. I also would love to see them change the behavior of the auto item pick up button you can assign in the UI to pick up all items within range that are displayed on screen by holding the button for a moment.
Component idea was suggested a long time ago, but even then it was too late to change. There’s even a pick up option in the ingame Options key binding menu.
One stash page would not be able to store every component in the game. You should even double the component amount for that as you can’t put partial components on top of a complete component. It would be required to double/triple the size of stashes and then apply your idea, which in the end would be a complete time waste for the devs as they could do something more important. “Fixing” a stash doesn’t make the game better, even if it helps in one aspect. I’d rather have tweaked some items, fixed an OP enemy or a bugged quest rather than having more room. You should also think about other players, some people totally don’t care how their stashes are organized - I saw people who put everything in the stash on one page, if that page is full, pick another one, 5 pages stuffed with components and items.
As much as I try to organize stashes and tabs they always seem to become “organized” by whatever logic or whim struck my fancy at that particular moment except for shared stash.
I avoid the auto-arrange button like the plague because it makes my disorganization truly jammed up. I believe if you jammed your inventory up using the auto-arrange button and haven’t exited out of that inventory screen yet that you can click auto arrange again and it goes back to your original comfy disorganization -but don’t quote me on that.
I now have redshirt mules that all they do is carry rings-n-things. I have of platoon of at least one toon of every possible class (incl. AoM & vanilla non-dual) that stock a variety of stuff that likely will only see maybe on average 10-20% gameplay use. The trouble I’m now having is recalling Which redshirt carries What. Spreadsheet time.
I recommend keeping the first shared stash tab almost empty - to be used for plunking current un-sorted spoils in.
But hey, having a veritable shatload is better than a pittance of stuff. You can always sell, sell, sell.
Auto-arrange once orders alphabetically horizontally and again does so vertically: either that or the other way around.
If you have items as well as components, then there are two other types of ordering: with items before components and with items after components, but both either horizontally or vertically ordered.
