Recently had a slight idea - what would you all offer in terms of feedback for the current devotion tree? Just a few thoughts of mine with roughly 1k hours played - maybe this would even have some impact on FOA design decisions if we were to agree on multiple points here?
What comes to my mind first:
1. Ghoul
its mandatory for basically every melee autoattacker build and not only that, but it offers way too much for way too little requirements. Its even that good that its worth considering picking this devotion up even if you dont play an AA build simply because the built in physical resistance/health regen increase of the procc is so strong.
My idea for this particular one: Increase requirements to match certain T2 devotions ( so e.g something like 6 red 6 blue 3 green) or even split the devotion into two smaller ones with different requirements, so that the lifesteal aspect of the procc gets seperated from its other effects.
2. Aether T3
I recently noticed that aether on its own doesnt really have an assigned t3 constellation, contrary to every other damage type. Having one might fill the performance gap to other damage types as well as offering a bit more build variety here.
3. Barrier Devotions
I quite often had chars which needed to build around absorption barriers as their main layer of defense. However, for physical/pierce & bleed theres no such barrier besides turtle shell and some items, usually boots, which only allow for certain damage types if you dont want to sacrifice too many other important stats. Adding a corresponding devotion would offer quite a bit of flexibility here
Unless Zantai change his mind, no new devotions will be added to the next dlc FOA.
I also disagree on Ghoul being too good. It depends on the build if you take it or not.
Changing the affinity requirements is most likely not something that will happend, the current affinity requirements is also well balanced.
As for the T3 constalletion, pretty much all damage type don’t have a designed constellation.
Only cold damage with Leviathan and physical damage with Vire the Stone Matron have their T3 constellations “Maybe” adding another damage to these 2 devotions might be something that could be done.
It’s not necessary to be pure Aether damage to count as a good tier 3 Aether devotion , a lot of Aether setups picks Korvaak which is all damage devotion , also is my first time after 7000 h endgame both seasonal and vanilla game that I heard Ghoul is mandatory for melee setups
i personally dont’ like ghoul because the proc has way too long cooldown for my taste in most situations
but it also often turns out “expensive” in spending 5pts for 3 affinity, which can break an otherwise desired devo map, so i rarely use ghoul nowadays and get some passive lifesteal elsewhere
I agree in a minmaxing sense (which I guess is most important), but I personally hate having to pick Korvaak. Yes, it’s great but it looks horrendous in an Aether themed build imo.
In general, I wouldn’t mind seeing more devotions, but I’m not expecting any. But like OP said, build variety is needed. Every devotion path is almost always the same, once you pick a damage type, in my experience.
Well if you play every fire setup ( just giving and example ) the same way , you play Grim Dawn in a wrong way . You don’t build your build around Devo map , you build the Devo map around your build . Devotion map is the final customisation after you put your build together ( there is leveling maps ofc but I assume we talk in general )
