- I’m not aware of any method but wanted to check. Anyone know a way?
- Can we have a method? I love using Arbors for food and they are great wasters of mediocre land.
The only thing I have found that improves fertility at all is clearing all trees, brush and rocks from the orchard. The improvement can be minimal if the ground is already fairly clear. For ground that is somewhat forested, the improvement is more measurable.
I’ve placed aviaries in orchards sometimes but I haven’t checked to see if it improves fertility. Orchards do contribute wax and honey from bees, but the aviaries need to be serviced by farmers, not the arborists.
I think the benefit flows from the Arbor to the Aviary, not vice versa.
And yes, I was talking about relatively clear ground. I never waste a forest on an orchard or farm if I can help it.
I tried an experiment to see if I could determine what improves orchard fertility. I made two new orchards, waited for them to get mature, then built an aviary in one and left the other without as a control.
After 5 years there had been no improvement due to the aviary. Both orchards were unchanged. So they do not factor into orchard fertility. As you mentioned, they just obtain bonuses to wax and honey from their location (field, orchard, etc.).
The only thing I have found that improves orchard fertility is clearing the land, which is done automatically when trees are planted. After that I saw nothing else that would improve fertility.
