Hey I’m really enjoying this game but got a few worries about my character build, I don’t like to have items with the three main stats on them I don’t mind skills with them but not items. So I was wondering can you build a good character without using items that boost Physique, Cunning, Spirit.
Right now I am messing around with a dual gun Pyromancer.
Each “point” of physique/cunning/spirit adds a few to the stat, and due to gear requirements, the value of living, and the relative mis-balance between the stats, most “guides” you will see on the forums suggest the majority of points be put into physique.
If you are having trouble with the stats, I would hold off putting points into them as well, since they are unrefundable.
When you over on the stat you will see # Bonus Point and # Point spended in so it’s easy to see how many point your equipment give you AND how many of the more limited Attribute point you have spendd in the stat. So if you know you should go 60/20/10 or anything similar you can easily know were you are toward that objective.
Unless you are going for a lot of pet damage gear/devotions, the pet is totally not worth it. If you do go the pet route, your personal damage and survivability are going to suffer greatly. IMO, hybrid dps/pet builds are pretty tricky to pull off in Grim Dawn.
I would personally take the points out of the pet and invest some into flashbang/searing light, blood of dreeg, and possession. Those will all give you some much needed survability. Keep flashbang up at all times on mobs, you’ll have to toss one every 4 or 5 seconds.
At some point you’ll want to invest points into curse of frailty + vulnerability, they will increase your damage greatly.
I would have to agree with him there. I’m running an Occultist that has the Pet and they are near useless. I use the Hellhound only to distract ennemy while I position myself for my offensive skill and he die quite often.
On the other side I have a friend that play a Pet build and at low level he look at his Briathorn and the map is empty of ennemies…
Dedicated pet builds are capable of being very strong. Hybrid pet/player DPS builds are very difficult to make work well. (Which I personally think is silly, but whatever.)
For sure, I didn’t mean pet builds are bad. Dedicated pet builds are actually really strong, the hardest part is making sure your character himself stays out of trouble.
What I meant was that I wouldn’t really invest a ton of points (or any) into pets unless you’re gonna go 100% pet build.
