In the market for an external monitor

Please forgive me if this is not the correct location to post this Thread - I was unable to locate an Off Topic section…

However, my Dad has mentioned that, in name of getting a larger screen, I should consider just buying a TV and using that as my external monitor.

I was hoping for some guidance on whether to go down the monitor route and, if so, whether the proposed monitor is a good option. Or, whether buying a TV is a good option and, if so, why.
