Hi, I have been playing Grim Dawn for a while and have already pumped the character to level 100, but I still do not understand some of the mechanics.
More specifically, I’m wondering if both expansions drop items in the normal storyline?
I bought all DLC for the game and I went through them on all difficulties, but I’m not sure if I can get things from DLC when I am near Fort Ikon or something.
I would like to knock out items in the skeleton dungeon, not animals, but I want items from Ashes of Malmouth.
Can you tell me how item drops work in relation to locations and DLC?

Welcome to the forum. 
Most drops in the game are random and can appear anywhere in the game no matter which expansion added them; the only specific ones are MI’s (Monster Infrequents) which only drop from certain monsters.

^unless GT lists a source, an item can drop anywhere - note expansion tag is not a source, just means it needs to be installed
