KS update #10

On another thread, Xiphan posted a link to the video on another YouTube site.

@SuN, TiLT

I think we should wait for Medierra’s point of view on that matter after his (well deserved) rest. Maybe it’s just an uninspired decision, maybe just a mistake when uploading the update … after all it was 4 a.m. then, and there may have been more than just one beer

Don’t get too upset people, I can’t even see it! It’s probably a mistake.

Edit: Someone already ripped it.

Cool video, loved the new gameplay footage. I was also able to have my own celebratory beer last night. Also, I’m looking forward to the interview.

someone get a capture where arthur presents the beer (~ 1min25sec) and put “success tastes like beer” as subtitle.

…and i hope the updates go public, i don’t feel comfortable with exclusive stuff… although i’m betting on late night/early morning mistake as well…

Ask and ye shall receive:

Hehe it might just have been a moment of genius and produced a lot of curious people to become backers.

 great, keyrock, though i had to do one myself also (just print screen/paint…):

why am i suddenly behaving like a little kid?

well, i’m away buying stuff for celebratory (cheap) sushi…

We all do, sometimes.

Nice vid btw, Love the gameplay. It gave me the boost to back the game.

$35 edition…:stuck_out_tongue:

I disagree with exclusivity, but we know that Crate is inclusive. I predict that the update 10 was intended for everyone. Medierra posted it at 3:00 am, so I agree with Nxt’s point (i.e., either uninspired or mistaken). However, you know that there have been mistakes, adjustments and teachable moments for Crate when using Kickstarter along with the previous fundraising efforts (e.g., Legendary Edition), so I would suggest you allow Medierra the time to assess the situation and share his point of view.

To have your trust breached over what is either a minor mistake or oversight about exclusivity—what appears to be the first example of it—contributes to a community where people become too attached to the product. You are a a stakeholder who is crucial not only to the product but the community as well; help and encourage your developer to be accountable, but I encourage you to do it collaboratively and patiently. It is okay to be disappointed, but I encourage you to recognize that close relationships between developers and their communities will need problem-solving and resilience. There will be mistakes, and the road will have bumps, cracks and holes along the way. Issues can be overcome as a community, but becoming too invested in the outcome can be risky. For example, Eve Online has hugely dedicated fans, and CCP was, and remains, a highly collaborative developer; however, Eve has bitter fans. They strayed too close to the sun, so their wings have been burned; it is a risk for fans.

I hope that this experience doesn’t burn you out or cause you to become disengaged because I predict that Medierra will be supportive of your point of view. Nonetheless, I want to highlight the negativity that can be caused when every point of disagreement becomes a threat to trust and confidence in either the developer or the product. In any relationship, sometimes you need to take a couple punches.

Heh, wow, didn’t see that coming. Sorry guys, I posted the thing at 3am, was dead tired (semi-drunk) and just wasn’t thinking.

A) I totally forgot about the whole issue that people who pledged through the website couldn’t see it.

B) I didn’t plan to keep it set to exclusive because I think releasing things publicly generates more publicity. However, I wanted to see fan reactions first before I let the media have access to it. So, I was planning to just read the feedback in the morning and then make it public. Again, totally forgot about the pre-order issue and I’m very sorry about that.

It was just a late-night, mental slip. :o

No worries sir, we’re just keeping you on your toes.

Heh, funny story, I actually shot the original video of myself talking much earlier but later when I went to edit it and put it together with the gameplay footage, I noticed that it was horribly grainy due to low-light.

I had to retake it but, by then, I had consumed… a number of beers. My cup was half empty and I had no other dark beer left but I wanted it full for the video, so I had to add water too it, which is why it looks sort of weak-sauce. :stuck_out_tongue:

This - beautifully put.

Well… with a successful Kickstarter our fearless developer won’t have to suffer through watered down beer anymore!!

Oh the ignominy of watered down beer…

Dejnov.

I thought you looked tired. I hope this funding means you can look after yourself a bit more and not have to work 18 hour days. We need you to be around for a lot longer making games.

You know you could have used a smaller glass.:stuck_out_tongue:

So success tastes like watered-down beer! Thought you looked a little pensive after you sipped it.

Come on, surely it’s worth shelling out a buck or few to help out and get to see the latest footage?

I feel that expecting people who purchased the game previously to pay for access to development updates is unnecessary. While there have been people who have pre-purchased GD and backed it on Kickstarter, that shouldn’t be the expectation of everyone who has been here. If someone contributes in any way, let’s celebrate and embrace them regardless of whether they are a Legendary devotee or eleventh hour $18 purchase.

Indeed. Fortunately, as Medierra posted he didn’t mean to restrict it from those who have already backed the project pre-Kickstarter. Chalk it up to a bleary-eyed decision.
