Late to the Forums

Greetings friends,

I’ve been playing Grim Dawn since late 2016. I’ve been lurking on the forums here and there over the last year, but haven’t dived into the conversation up until this point. I’m coming out of the woodwork now mostly to state how thoroughly impressed I am with both Crate and this community. Everything about 1.0.7.0, conversation and adjustment into 1.0.7.1, and the thoughtful and interactive discussion surrounding this game leading into Forgotten Gods is awesome. This is exactly the sort of forum community and dev relationship I love to find, and the fact that it is oh-so-very rare these days earns you all a massive salute from me. Cheers!

Anyway, as this is an intro post, let’s make it proper:

I’d love to say I’m a lot more hardcore than I am these days. After two years of Grim Dawn, I’ve only logged around 430 hours. But it is one of the only video games I play - in fact, I keep myself capped at an arbitrary limit of only 6 active games installed on my computer to keep my opportunity costs manageable, so it holds high status in my curated library. I’ve logged a lot of those hours in the last few months, and at the rate I’m loving this game, I expect I’ll be hitting 4-digit times soon enough. I’m an ARPG vet, starting with original Diablo, racked up enough D2 hours to circle the globe a few times on foot, played a lazy bit of D3, Torchlight 1&2, and a handful of indies. I didn’t find Titan’s Quest until the Android version, but am currently really enjoying it when I’m away from my PC and Grim Dawn goodness. Grim Dawn is - by good measure - the best overall ARPG I’ve played.

I currently have two main characters (I’ll link GrimTools builds once I have a high enough post count):

  • Zephyri: Storm Druid
  • Corvana: Pet Warlock

I engineered both of the builds myself and am still grinding up some of the core gear pieces to open up their full potential, but they are a ton of fun to play. While I’m sure that the Crucible Gladiator Min-Max brigade would laugh me out of the building for what I’m sure must be lowly “toy” builds, I’m mostly a campaign player who prefers awesome theme over meta-mush, and they get the job done in style. That said, I’m always happy for feedback if you see anything worthy of comment. Good times.

Other than that, I’m a CPA with my own practice and I have an amazing wife (the two primary reasons for my relatively slow accumulation of Grim Dawn hours). I’m very active in the tabletop gaming community and run the gaming section of a local shop in my spare time. I’ve been told that I have too many hobbies, but I just contend that I don’t have enough time. I turn 40 next week, so this time thing is starting to become an issue. My default tagline is: “Life is good. I’m on a quest to prove it.” So far, so good.

And there we have it. Keep on kicking ass, GD team and community. I’m happy to count myself among you. Cheers!

Glad to hear you are enjoying GD, and most importantly, welcome to the forums.

Its a good time to be joining at any rate because of the upcoming expansion.

hello Greyhaven,

and welcome to the forum and grim dawn

Welcome to the forum.

How are you finding TQ on mobile? I saw the demo Nordic made of it some years ago and it was laughable for the number of errors, but I’ve not really seen any reports/reviews of how it actually plays now.

If you’re interested there’s a new TQ forum (the old one closed suddenly back in 2016) and you’d be very welcome there too. Not sure if any members play the mobile version as well as PC, but we may still be able to give you some insights into the game generally. www.titanquestfans.net

Expect you know it if you’ve been lurking on the forum for a while, but TQ has a strong connection to GD.

One can never have too many Hobbies! You just need to stack more %CDR :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d say welcome to the forums but since you have been here for 2 years, silently watching and waiting, I’d say nice to finally meet you

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Happy to finally join the conversation

@Medea - TQ on Mobile is interesting. I don’t play a ton of mobile games and I don’t have a lot of history with TQ, so I can’t really speak to how well the port translates. But from my fresh perspective: The game seems stable and is much more elaborate than anything I’ve come to expect from typical mobile games. The controls take some getting used to, but they’re functional. I wouldn’t want to play a class that requires too deep of a skill rotation, but I’m chewing through things quite well with a tanky Paladin build that doesn’t need a ton of finesse. I’m nowhere close to endgame yet.

It is base-game only, and given how long it has been available, I highly doubt we’ll see any of the expansion content. That means a few major modern conveniences do not exist - no stash! No way to share items across characters, etc. So I find that I’m more likely to throw components onto all sorts of random gear rather than hoarding them, and finding awesome stuff for the wrong class is just a classic feel-bad. It definitely makes me appreciate all of the quality-of-life features stuffed into GD.

I’ll seek out the forums there next time I get the urge to put some time into TQ. Thanks for the heads-up!

Well, the base game doesn’t have crafting anyway so might as well use those relics/charms in gear. Not much else they’re good for.
