Legendary items, where are they?

Not sure how I’m going to compete in Ultimate when I have yet to find any usefull legendary for my build. Currently level 63, nearing end of act 2 elite. I’m a warder and have only had 2 legendary drops both were on normal from game completion and end of SoT both useless for me.
My current heath is 8700, dps is 4700, all resists are close to 80 save for fire at 26 and aether at 8, but boy do the hero bosses have me running.

What level do people start Ultimate? Will a full legendary item wearer be able to cake walk hardest areas? Just remember my Titans Quest character that harldy ever chugged pots even in the secret turtle king path area. It was a decked out defensive/offensive build best items save for the Aianios shield never found that.

it sounds like you’re unlucky and maybe rush content a little too fast. take the time to farm bosses and areas (at your point Cronley’s or Arkovian Undercity and the Hive just before seems good choices)

i think people usually start Ultimate at level 65/70 but it also depends on what time it takes you to find good gear.

Unitl Act2 Elite my Warlock had also only like 2-3 Legendaries. Started to get much better around Act 4 for me. I entered Ultimate with level 73 and 3 equipped legendaries (that are not optimal for my build but somehow fit good enough for now). I even use Rowari Chest and Shoulders (Revered Faction Items) because I could not find any better ones.

Most other legendaries I found came from one-shot chests and me farming both wasp nests in Act 2, as well as Cronley.

Summarizing: Most legendaries I got with my first higher level char appeared for me around level 68+

I’m trying not to rush to much, I did a complete character wipe a few weeks ago, had 3 characters in elite, highest was a pure soldier, level 66 in the blood grove but I got so sick of dying that I gave up. Having dabled in all the characters I have a small grasp how they work. Current build is a savagery bleeder, life leech with lighting in the side. Have all the one point wonder skills of the soldier tree, blindside is maxed (my crowd control knock them on their butts skill), 5 in counter strike, 4 in squad tactics, shaman side savagery is maxed working on maxing blood pac, primal bond, maelstorm and entangling vines, 1 point in devoring swarm to lower bleed resist and minute life leech. Devotion skills, bat, ulos keeper of water, scales of something working for skills dryaid and crown on something, have various defensive ones for resistences maxed too, filling in fox now for more bleeding. Only good gear I have is a axe chonga ri or something that does lots of bleeding.

I’m sorry but 2 leggies at level 63 is nothing too unsual mate, maybe you’re a just a little bit unlucky :D. Warder can survive anything without having to rely on OP gears, in fact if you go for physical dmg you can get some arguably BiS items from the faction vendors. Keep your eyes on greens too 'cause they can spawn with ridiculous stats at high level.

For your bleeding build, I have some suggestions:

  • Max out Devouring Swarm, this is a must, it’s not a one point wonder, it’s your main source of debuffing.
  • For Devotion, get Huntress -> Rend, bind it to devouring swarm.
  • Spam the shit out of DS, you will have a constant -83% bleeding resistance almost all the time, that’s nearly doubling your damage agains enemies with low resistance, and make it much easier to deal with highly resistance baddies.

If you can make it to ultimate, legendary frequency is much higher. I will say it is pretty typical to not get a legendary you can actually use for long stretches of time. There is no smart loot so it is pure rng. You can go to the blacksmith in tyrant’s hold to swap rare crafting mats for certains types of legendaries though, which will make it easier to get what you want.

Thank god there is no smart loot, thats the worse thing Diablo 3 ever did. Part of the loot fun is saving up gear to build other characters up to them. But why compare to Diablo 3 they are so far gone from the loot hunt genre that its hard to consider that game an aarpg. With Kadala and Kanias cube it should be called slot machine for lootablo the reaper of rifts. I saw some flash fire wizard build and I kid you not it took two nights to level to 70 and gear up so dull so fast.
Grim Dawn please do not add smart loot nor make this game easy ot will forever ruin the experience of building a strong character through trial and error. Please do not add some random areas that make no since in the world of Cairn simple to call end game. In other words don’t take a single page of what Diablo 3 is. (I for one would love for Diablo 3 go back to pre patch 1.04 when inferno was hard. Basically get rid of everthing they’ve done and make it D3 vanilla with crusaders too. Sorry off topic rant.

Either i’m really lucky or you are just unlucky because i have dropped around 7 or 8 legendaries in Elite so far (I’m at Blood Grove). Two of them were perfect for my Druid and the others were exactly for my Witchblade and Sabouter.

From that i have to say that this game has the most reasonable legendary drop rate i’ve seen so far. The others i’ve played ranged from decent drop rate to “I haven’t seen one with 3 characters and they are all near the endgame”.

Sorry i brought it up, haha. Don’t worry about it coming into this game, it wouldn’t even work if they tried because of the depth of all the masteries. Loot tables would still be pretty large because one mastery can be used in a ton of builds.

ALL of this is being changed with the patch this week…chill out my friends CHILL THE EFF OUT!!!>??? ASDJKLFADSJFL;ASJDFLKJASDFL; JSF A

this patch will rock the …socks??? rhymes with socks!!! CHILL OUT!!! OMFG!!! I WANT PATCH!!! NOW!!! JASLKD;FJASLDFJKASL;

Why do people assume you need to be clad in legendary gear in order to survive Ultimate? I have three characters I’m currently running through Ultimate and I have a total of two pieces of legendary gear on one, three on another, and a single legendary on the last one. Epics and faction gear can easily carry you through Ultimate. If you have a solid build, legendary gear only makes you overpowered. As it stands, you said you’re in Elite around the low 60s and only 8,000 HP? I was sitting on 13k HP in the low 60s on my Druid and he is a caster and not a tank. If you’re struggling, it’s not because of a lack of legendaries. It’s a problem with your build and current gear.

Probably because a lot of builds posted here have characters clad in Ultimate.

Up to 3 found but alas useless again. Any way I wouldn’t say struggling, if I get surrounded by 2 or 3 hero monsters at a time it normally ends in death. Thus far hardest part was cleansing the shrine in the SoT, i died at least 5 times on that, died a few times killing the boss nefore the locked door till I chugged a resist fire potion.

Ultimate is not that crazy hard! You can do it with mostly greens from faction vendors if your spec is good.
Some of the boss fights can be crazy hard but most of the content is easily doable in greens or blues.
Truthfully I have several characters in both 2 hand and 1 hand because legendary drops generally are not good for the character they drop for. I equip mostly in this manner - if I want a two hander I play my one hand users - ha, seems to work. (even though I realize it’s just random playing tricks on me)

It’s not really what level but what stats. So your entrance to ultimate is more dependent on your gears.

You can try to farm treasure troves for drops and mats to craft. On one of my alts I started the treasure trove run as soon as I unlocked the one in blood grove, and farmed for like 20+ levels straight. Walked away with 3 mules full of legendaries and pretty much hooked up my friends with BiS items left and right across their mains and their alts.

I was in this same boat.

I think I was lvl 75 and had 2 worthless legendaries in my stash from completing the difficulties. I kept checking Steam/Grim Dawn to make sure I wasn’t missing some sort of important legendary drop patch or version. I thought ‘oh well once I’m farming ultimate…’ but still no legendaries.

It wasn’t until I was able to farm nemesis mobs that legendaries started to drop globally for me.

I thought that very weird. But now I have mules to hold all my bling.

Gotta say, this is kinda disheartening to hear. I spent two years in the misery that is path of exile, never getting a single high value drop, I really don’t want to relive that constant disappointment. I loved the loot in TQ, there was so much cool gear and it actually dropped in a fairly consistent manner. I would spend hours farming Typhon just to see what awesome new thing that I’d never seen would drop. I just started playing GD yesterday, I’ve got probably 10 hours in so far, but I noticed pretty quickly how low the drop rate is in comparison. I don’t want a loot pinata like D3 has turned into, but it would be nice to know I have something to look forward to.

I have a thread detailing some runs and their respective outputs: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38582

You can see that the rate of epic and legendary drops are actually rather high - I’ve found far more epics and legendaries in Grim Dawn than I ever did in TQ.

Legendaries are nice, but I completed Ultimate without huge amounts of difficulty whilst only using maybe one legendary. The rest of my build consisted of level 50 epics and faction gear (my build was also 100% self found). It’s definitely possible to complete the game without much farming whatsoever, but of course it is nice - and there is some content that I needed to farm for in order to clear.

I don’t think anyone else is expecting a rush of legendary drops 10 hours into this game. IIRC, they are level gated so barring one particularly quest reward, you wouldn’t typically have your first piece drop until lvl50.

And there are farming spots that do get you legendaries much sooner than lvl75. If anything, you can utilize treasure trove farm routes and the legendary blacksmith to get guaranteed legendaries as soon as you can access the necessary areas on elite. So rather than going through hordes of trash mobs and act bosses or nemesis, you don’t have to wait that long or pray that hard to RNGesus to get what you want.

If you have to wait til lvl75, getting to ultimate, and then only able to farm legendaries from nemeses, you are doing something horribly wrong, but if you expect blings from the sky 10 hours into the game…which is, what, act 3/4 normal? You might as well order some fast food instead, at least that will be quick enough to your satisfaction, quality notwithstanding.

Legendary has been dropping frequently enough for me.

I just got a Brutallax and Eye of the Storm recipe just now.

Yesterday I got a Voidwalker Footpads dropped for me.

The day before a Viperfang Grips.

I have 3 character 2 in Elite at lvl 60+.
