Let’s Talk Fire and Cold RR…

Hmm have you played Desolator Purifier recently? That’s my most recent fire experience and yeah, it’s pretty lacklustre in SR, imo.

I haven’t, I don’t play ranged much (feels well covered by other players and no need for me to contribute). Perhaps there are some issues with some specific builds to solve :thinking: but I’m not sure about the general sentiment that Fire builds are the weakest.

Ok, going over all my fire builds that I’ve tested in SR75-80:

  • Desolator Pyro: still hasn’t fully recovered from removal of passthrough on Desolator, it’s meh on survivability, single target and AoE, where previously single target was even worse but at least the AoE was there. Fire resistant nemeses all do a number on him cause they all hit hard and he struggles to recover.
  • Retal Commando: outright disgusting, but not because of heaps of damage, but because it’s pretty much immortal. You put it up against a high-health enemy that doesn’t attack in melee and you’re gonna be there for a good while, and they don’t even have to be particularly resistant
  • FoI Purifier: solid enough
  • DW EoR Shieldbreaker: pretty meh but it’s been a while since I’ve played it so I can’t say for sure why. I think it was squish (bad phys res) and had bad sustain. The damage I think was ok.
  • Virtue Paladin: outstanding, damage was decent enough (and is about to go up in 9.8), and it’s super tanky
  • 3pc Vanquisher Templar: outstanding; but again, it’s because it hardly ever stands in place long enough to take any serious damage. DPS wasn’t anything special as Arcanist provides no RR, though admittedly the build’s CT spam damage will get much better in 9.8.
  • BWC spam sorcerer: awful in both damage and sustain on live; dps will get better in 9.8 but dunno if it saves the build cause sustaining health is a nightmare
  • partial Pyran regen Mortar Elementalist: outstanding, but again, it’s cause it just doesn’t die, ever, due to ridiculous regen. Getting that regen cost the build A LOT of % damage on devos and gear so it can aggro the planet and survive but it’ll take its time killing tankies.

Outside of the FoI Purifier and possibly the EoR Shieldbreaker (again, can’t recall the latter in detail) I can’t really say any one of them stands out in terms of damage among my other builds. They’re almost all fairly slow in fact. Those among them that are truly excellent just don’t mind cause their timer is never in danger at 75-80, cause they don’t die.

I played a chaos bwc sorcerer. Sorcerers are in my opinion quite unkillable - blast shield and mirror are so nicely to chain.

Made a fire bwc pyro with decent damage plus 5k/7k health regeneration. Even more unkillable.
