Let's talk about Rage of Agrivix set and why it should be buffed like yesterday

I already posted a disappointment thread after building a Callidor’s Sorcer with all the new items/devotions that look like they are tailor-made for this build but grossly underperform.

I am not going to talk about Phoenix devotion or Seru the Mirage devotion or about Callidor’s Tempest skill itself, I will try and focus on the set and why it’s bad/designed poorly.

  • Set is very glassy for a build that is supposed to be melee (tiny amount of physical resist is all we get although build is clearly melee, you have to get upclose and personal to deliver damage with CT, especially with the amount of complications that non-soldier/shield based melee based builds get in AoM. Caster armor, no DA/Armor/Dodge bonuses, Sorcerer just collapses against toughest bosses despite all the shields and ADCtH). Solution: Make armor pieces heavy/add some armor increase/aborption bonuses, add big physical resist boost and/or dodge/deflect as set completion bonus. Make set bonus some kind of absorb shield, because those wisps are useless anyway.
  • Skill bonuses to CT are miniscular. 10% weapon damage and 1 metre radius (plus a bonus to Vindictive Flame which almost feels like a joke, come on). It’s not enough even with all other CT modifiers I got from all CT gear there is in-game. Solution: Make weapon damage bonus at least 30% and remove radius bonus (it does not matter because there is no mid-range for melee characters, you are going to be facing most mobs point blank) and/or add some kind of RR as a set bonus, because it’s not easy to get RR as an aether build.
  • Fire to Aether conversion should be left out completely or upped to 70-100%. This one is just poor design. So we get one more item that converts fire to aether which is a nice belt, but then what, what should I do with the rest of fire damage? There is only one proc that gives both fire and aether rr and it’s from Warpfire, a weapon that does not work well for this build (figured it the hard way). Solution Buff it so we can convert at least 75% to aether or remove it completely. Right now it does not make much sense really. There are tonns of new items in AoM that give 100% conversion, yet mythical Agrivix set, sorcerer exclusive, gives just 30% conversion for whatever reason (so now I have no incentive to support fire portion of my damage with RR from devotions because it’s just 70%).
  • Set proc is a bit of a joke. It just is. Those things don’t do damage at all. Their damage makes Aether Titans in Steelcap District die but after 5 minutes of unstoppable laughter. Their firing rate makes me sleepy, they take time to set up, and when they do get set up and ready, I am moving to another pack. They don’t make sense as Callidor Tempest support spell. They would make sense for some kind of DoT/Trap/Turret build, but not for CT. Solution: Make proc something like a big Nuke on cooldown, like some big Aether bolt that gets released whenever you build 5-7 charges with your Callidor Tempest, that would make a lot of sense and feel more approriate and in theme with the spell. Or make set proc some kind of defensive buff/shield. Anything but those useless wisps (why elemental damage on them?? We have set/skills/devotions that support fire and aether, why would wisp do elemental/aether and not fire aether or just aether? Who came up with this bright idea?)

TL;DR Mythical sorcerer signature set is extremely weak/borderline unusable.

  1. Proc sucks, fucking waste of an entire set with that useless proc
  2. Conversion values are fine the way they are for balancing and shit
  3. Set rather than getting more defensive bonuses (which is unlikely since we already have Iskandra), it’d be better to add significant (emphasis on this word) radius of effect to CT there making CT more of a cast skill and less of a melee skill
  4. Add a little more weapon damage, 10% sounds like a sick joke

Overall set does suck donkey balls. Individual pieces are usable but no reason to pick the entire set

It’s also for Spellbinder too now and i agree. This set needs a substantial buff because when compared to some other legendary sets, it’s pretty weak.

My main issue is complete lack of DA and only OA in the offhand. Definitely needs more of both in other parts. There’s also the % spirit in the shoulders which is pointless and something much better can be in its place.

Besides the Arcane Wisps being piss weak, they are actually a little too aggressive. They tend to aggro mobs that are off screen and i’m already dreading Grava and Kuba because of this. Last thing i want is for these things to lure them when i want to be the one to lure them.

I don’t get the point of the fire -> aether conversion. Sure, if you want to make a pure aether version of CT … but it’s not nearly enough conversion for that purpose. Most devotion and items already have aether together with fire/elemental damage bonuses. A relatively small amount of conversion makes the skill, in my opinion, actually less useful in some situations. Try killing aether hulks or titans with nothing but aether damage, this is not fun or effective.

TLDR: go full conversion or don’t bother and give the set some much needed stat boosts instead.

lol, so true

Making the chest armor heavy would mean having to remove the energy regen, mainly more because of consistency (can’t think of a heavy chest armor with energy regen).

Make it medium though like Demonslayer would mean keeping the energy regen but a little bit lowered.

It’s easy to fix, make +200 to armor/increased armor absorption b x one of the set bonuses.

Thanks for the responses, guys, hope Crate addresses it. I understand that there are plenty of Legendaries that are currently useless because they need rebalancing, but this set is a whole set, dedicated to one of the most iconic and most powerful Grim Dawn masteries combos that now lives a bit in a shadow of new classes, dedicated to one of the oldest build defining skills, and it is a set that sucks big hairy Kupacabra balls.

Light’s Defender Plate has energy regen.

I’m curious as to why you think so. I’ve always thought it was BiS for a CT Sorc.

Keep forgetting that has energy regen. But since Light Defender and Agrivix set came out in the same update, i guess they didn’t want two heavy armors with energy regen.

Reason is simple, I tested both (Warpfire and Wrath of the Ascendant) versus different type of enemies (made few runs in sewers of Malmouth killing Mountain and killed Fabius and Cronley). Warpfire’s weapon damage is too low, and burn bonus is negligible. It leads to lower hp returns and eventual death versus Fabius (sometimes even Mountain).

Wrath of the Ascendant has much higher base damage thus better ADCtH and higher +%aether, better proc (same RR debuff but OA/DA debuff on top of that), sweet HP/human damage/casting cost reduction bonuses (HP bonus is very handy to this build). As a result I comfortably facetanked Fabius without the need of mirror and facetanked Moosielauke (who I randomly met in Crumbled Watch).

(I even tested Mindwarp - most terrible result out of 3, don’t have access to level 94 Decree of Aldritch).

Still it’s gonna require 3 successful expensive crafts (wyrmbornes, Maw of the Damned, Mark of Anathema) with %armor increase to make this build okayish in terms of tankiness versus AoM bosses. The should add some kind of armor/phys res bonus to the set.

I d like to see this set as Fire/Burning with aether to fire conversion, realy. Pure Sorc/Magehunter stuff with bonuses to CT and Grenades/runes . Ofc this set is in dear need of Liferols and OA/DA bonuses cause shoulders, chest and offhand are pure inusable crap on ultimate for melee caster. And completion skill is just a joke, indeed. This must be changet to something that actualy do dmg. Or add survivability, or whathever.

Just don’t touch the conversion part please. That amulet is pretty valuable to me.
Buff the granted skill and add some OA/DA bonuses and alter the skill mods to allow more tankiness

6%-8% ADCtH to CT
increased armor by 12% to Reckless Power
1 meter radius of effect to CT

Something like this, if need be remove the granted skill from the mythical version and just add good looking skill mods. The wisp is piss poor anyway

I agree that the fire to aether conversion on the amulet should stay and in my opinion it should be upped. Maybe to 40%.

There is a lot of options for elemental to aether conversion, but almost none for aether to fire, thats why i wont this set to be unique.
If you want Aether CT, go spellbinder. If you want burning, go purifier. Curent itemisation leave sorcs in some small niche with suboptimal builds. Pure Fire sorc is something that can diverse it from poor-boy spellbinder.

The Mythical version is also for Spellbinder, not just Sorcerer. Also, reversing it to aether to fire would kind of piss off some people who use it for fire to aether, including myself.
