Help, having a hard time surving the second level of crucible and ultimate is killing me. Here’s my stats in the attachment and build:
Of course, the Witch-Hunter and must be flimsy. This is the pay for the immense damage (all those hundreds of thousands of poison damage), which he can inflict.
Besides of that most (not all, but most) of your gear just bad for 80 level.
Did you by any chance put points into cunning?
Given that you’re a melee witchhunter, I’m not surprised. With your gear there is no hope in hell for challenger crucible. In fact, I’m not sure if a melee witchhunter is cut out for crucible in general. I think with BiS gear you will be able to do challenger, but not gladiator. There is potential for awesome damage though. Gladiator crucible meta is all about being a tank.
Anyway, get Aspect of the Guardian > Blood of Dreeg > Pneumatic Burst > Shadow Dance > Phantasmal Armour in that order should get your survivability up nicely (first three are absolutely essential, the latter two are optional depending on gear). Maybe some lifesteal too like Haunted Steel.
P.S. You are in desperate need of offensive ability too.
EDIT:
I edited your grimcalc and devotions a bit with my suggestion. You should also be using lethal assault:
http://grimcalc.com/build/1007-Vq0Chd
This is around about the build you should be using. As you get better gear that gives + skills to nightblade you should make sure to maintain the melee procs to level 5 which gives them 20% chance of occurring which is the max so any points over that is a waste. Nidalla’s hidden hand must be maxed. Make sure pneumatic burst or shadow burst don’t go above level 12. Also, put all remaining points into physique and work towards the venomblade set.
So much for build diversity
yeah i think so it was my first char
How do you suppose i farm better gear? I completed 100 rounds of normal crucible and not one upgrade dropped. Not even an epic
You asked for help, you got it, you complain about it. Bah!
You want build diversity, make it work for yourself!
Apparently you don’t need help. Why do you ask?
Rework you character to be poison dot WH and farm like that until you get better gear, than you can rework it back to DW WH.
haha! More of a critique of the game i guess. I want to make a melee witch hunter. Turns out game wasn’t designed for melee witch hunter. So why put melee witch hunter into the game if its not able to go to end game? ???
What are the best areas to farm in elite? or just run normal crucible to farm?
Edit: are there any craftables/ reputation gear i can get for upgrades or just hoping for lucky drops?
You are lacking gear to go to end game as a melee DW WH.
This is what you need if you want to steam roll the game as DW WH:
http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49260
I never run crucible I hunt nemeses and MIs. Cronley, Viloth, Golus, Hidden path bosses, Fabius,…
There is much fraction gear that you could use to improve your current build but you will need to obtain reputation to do so.
Browse trough that thread I left you link for, also look for TomoDaks, WH build, it will be helpful. And don’t despair, you will get better gear sooner or later.
Yeah or you could do this.
You could also just never change from that route and wreck the entire game.
Unfortunately, the Crucible is quite unforgiving when it comes to build diversity - especially when it comes to players who don’t have tons of gear sitting in their storage.
Your best option is probably just to farm the roguelike dungeons in Elite (or Ultimate, if you can handle it) until you start getting some good purples. Again, unfortunately, melee WH isn’t exactly known for pushing the upper echelons of Crucible. Not saying it’s impossible, but they are not as popular for that task as Witchblades and Commandos. There are also a couple routes people run besides roguelikes, such as the royal hive near the Twin Falls rift.
Many people don’t even play Crucible nor do they consider it end-game. It’s just a slightly different option for playing, but it does take an investment in gear and knowledge if you want play the non-cookie cutter builds. Many people rocking Crucible with more diverse builds have been playing for a long time and already have quite the gear pile built up. DW Witch Hunter is actually quite strong offensively.
Edit - I also want to add that devs have acknowledge recently that the squisher builds in the game are a bit too squishy - and that they will be adding more Defense Ability to some “caster” devotions and gear.
Edit 2 - Here’s a thread with a nice farming route by mp84. http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49508
You don’t have to do exactly what they do, but it’s basically a really well done list of all the bosses that are easy to get to, and can be a little less boring than just running the same 3 or 4 things over and over.
Poison/Chaos DW Witch Hunter can also easily handle endgame. You just have to be creative and invest time into farming/crafting gear.
Here’s a few things that I’ve noticed just looking at the grim calc in your first post.
- As other people have noted, Witch Hunters rank very near the top in amount of DPS their skills are capable of, but very low in survivability. This is especially true if you are DW. This means that when you’re building your character, you have to go out of your way (this means sacrificing DPS) to ensure survivability. This gets especially important when you hit ultimate, and even MORE especially important in crucible, because there are tons of enemies that hit hard and you don’t have many chances to heal up safely. You can do this without much of a problem because you can count on the DPS effectiveness of the Witch Hunter skill set to carry you through the day, even if you’re not maximizing it.
Fun story, my first character was a dual-wield pistol sorcerer that I tried to build for DPS only. Not only did I not know how best to maximize that damage and messed that up, but I like you thought I could get away with just a little bit of survivability options (maxed Mirror, Haunted Steel, no heal devotions except Ghoul I think, lots of points in cunning/spirit). I did clear the end game content on ultimate, but I died I think like 500 times or something ridiculous and I can’t even beat aspirant crucible with it. I’m trying to salvage it now that I know more about the game…anyway don’t make the same mistake I did! Just always put points in physique unless you need it for gear haha
So basically this.
- Your devotions are essentially devoted to poison. I get that. I did the same thing with my sorcerer for fire. The issue is how that poison actually synergizes with your skills…
So for the Occultist tree, I like your Possession skill and Blood of Dreeg (though as stated above it could use more). 12 points in Evil Eye seems a bit much; it does indeed synergize with poison but it’s a different playstyle than DW. Time you spend casting it is time you could be spending attacking. You should either not do DW and go full Eye build or just leave 1 point in it for the physical resist reduction (you don’t need to leave the point in Blood Burst to activate the transmuter either). Even then, the physical resist reduction is minor and you’re trying to focus on other damage types anyway.
For Nightblade, I’m looking at the DW tree and see you’ve maxed Execution. I’m not sure if you noticed this, but unless you have some kind of physical/pierce to acid conversion on your equipment it’s doing NO poison damage (except for the tiny amount of flat acid BoD gives you). Nidalla’s Hidden Hand ONLY affects BS, AQD, and WD, which combined happen a little less than half the time you attack. Even then, it only converts 33% of that piercing damage to acid, so most of the time your DW attacks are doing little to no acid/poison damage. Most of your damage is actually coming from piercing, with a chunk of physical depending on the armor piercing value of your weapons. Based off of this DW tree alone, I can tell you your devotion bonuses don’t align with your skills.
Going down the NB tree I see you have a few points in Ring of Steel tree. I can only assume this is to proc devotions. As an aside, Circle of Slaughter is actually amazing for survivability as the chance of fumbling attacks applies to bosses and you can get it up to 50%.
I see you’ve invested a ton of points into Shadow Strike. Again, looking at the skill itself, it deals mainly piercing (because of the huge weapon damage converted to pierce plus the base pierce damage), next probably physical (again because of the huge weapon damage), then cold/poison are probably tied for last. It does do a nice chunk of poison to be sure, but it’s certainly not where the majority of the damage is coming from (i.e., not quite optimized).
The rest I agree with, PB and SD should be at 12 (no lower or higher), and Night’s Chill should be maxed which it is.
So basically you should be trying to get as many conversion to acid items as you can get your hands on (you’ve got one with Mark of Dreeg, I would recommend putting a Vitriolic Gallstone on your other weapon so you can get the poison aura that enhances that poison further). That at least can get some more of your physical weapon damage converted.
I see you want to make a DW Witch Hunter that specializes in acid/poison, but the issue is that it’s hard to do if you don’t have all the high end gear that converts all your physical/pierce damage to acid (e.g. the Venomblade set) because otherwise you’ve got no decent sources of poison in your skills. Until you get that, in order for your DW character to be decently optimized you HAVE to give at least piercing some love through devotions/items (and possibly even cold).
TL;DR: This is how I would try and make a DW poison/acid Witch Hunter at level 80 without high end gear given that each class has 50 mastery points.
http://grimcalc.com/build/1007-98epWL
The last 10 devotion points can go to Jackal, Tainted Eruption, and last point into Revenant, and the last 10 skill points can finish Solael’s and rest into Shadow Dance. Alternatively for constellations you could put 3 to get Fetid Pool, 5 in Revenant for life steal and attack speed, and 2 in Jackal for attack speed. When you get the Venomblade set you can even ditch the Assassin Blade constellation and get the Eye of the Guardian, but I would recommend having it early because -% Pierce and -% Physical will be important to you.
You’ll notice it’s similar to yours, but I only put a point into Shadow Strike for mobility and leveled Lethal Assault (flat acid damage + poison buff) and put some points into Solael’s Witchfire. The attack speed buff when maxed out is very nice and the transmute to chaos is good because your chaos damage is getting buffed WAY more than your physical and you’re never going to have more than like 60% physical damage converted to acid anyway, so might as well buff 15% of it. Also this transmute applies to ALL your physical damage, not just a couple of your DW skills like NHH does.
Maxed BoD with maxed AoG + PB + Posession + Wayward Soul + Giant’s Blood + BB will give you a lot more options for survivability and hopefully give you some of the tankiness you crave. Since all your DW damage is weapon based, attack damage converted to health items will also help a lot.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got. Best of luck to you!
P.S. I noticed you have Black Star of Deceit, it’s resistance reduction does not stack with Manticore’s Acid Spray so it’s being wasted. Just in case you didn’t know =)
Thanks for the great replies I appreciate it
