Hi everyone. I’m fairly new to the game and, while looking at some builds, I found and really liked this tanky Immortal Retaliator build from Autentist; however, I don’t really know how to level my toon up. You know, stat order and which attribuites to level 1st on the soldier tree, for example. Can you give me a hand? What would you suggest? Thank you!
I’d post the link to the build itself but the forum doesn’t like people with less than 3 posts :furious:
Probably better of leveling with something else in the soldier tree, (transmuted 2h forceweave, bladearc). You can respec everything later as long as u stay with your class combos.
First off - I think that there’s no need here to get your character’s level up by using a different, preliminary, build, although a two-handed build would certainly be a breeze to level.
I took a look at the build you mentioned and gotta say that I am a little confused though. I guess it’s endgame viable and all, but why not even put a single point in Forcewave, Blitz and Deadly Momentum? Plus the whole point of taking Inquistor as second mastery seems to be that skill modifier on the Mythical Avenger of Cairn amulet. I’d say that’s rather a proof-of-concept build that might or might not be the thing you are looking for.
I’d suggest just skilling the Soldier mastery first, then seeing what other mastery might be a good pick, depending on the items available to you.
Soldier alone should take you to at least level 50 without trouble.
Try to get your 50 points into the Soldier mastery rather fast so you can get Menhir’s Bulwark, but don’t rely on retaliation or reflection too much yet.
Because - why wait until the enemies have attacked you when up until level 40 or so you should be able to easily cut through them with just Cadence, Blitz, Forcewave and your component skills (like Brutal Slam and Brutal Shield Slam)?
In any way there’s decent faction gear for the build and Fleshwarped Pauldrons are not hard to come by, giving you +3 on Cadence, making them awesome no matter how shitty the rest of the item’s stats might be.
I think that the Obelisk of Menhir and Messenger of War constellations would be the most important to you, but I would probably take other constellations for leveling, such as Bull and Anvil, and respec later.
At some point in time you will likely notice your attack damage alone just not cutting it anymore, probably somewhere in elite difficulty - that’s when you might want to concentrate on the retaliation-related qualities of your build.
For that make sure that by then you have switched your constellations to the ones you plan on using for the rest of the game, so that you have their powers already leveled at least a bit.
Edit:
When it comes to attributes - put enough points into Spirit so that you can wear jewelry, put points into Cunning only if you need it for that awesome sword you might have found or if you desperately need more offensive ability, and put the rest in Physique. Well, perhaps save some points for unexpected circumstances (like finding that awesome sword).
There’s a way to reset all attribute points once you hit the Malmouth content, so it’s not a big deal if you should make a mistake with attribute point assignment.
Hm, okay then Space-Time, Rant, thank you very much. How would guys build a nice tank then? Are there good combos for this? I don’t mind how long it takes to level
Your first main decision for levelling a Tank is to shield or not to shield. Sword and shield meta has been big until now, mainly I suspect because of Crucible where uber-tankiness is critically important.
For my soldier characters (and I’m a workaday player, not an elite theory-crafter) the first fifty levels are a breeze - dump points into any of the two-handed weapons skills and Blitz then kill stuff. The Soldier skill tree allows you to make a super-tanky character very quickly (Field Command is especially good).
You need four skill types at this stage - mobility (Blitz or via an item… Chaos Strike is a great way of not needing to invest in Blitz in the first place), circuit breaker (Menhir’s / Blood of Dreeg etc), single-damage (Cadence for example) and crowd control (Blitz can do this, actually, if you are going S&B).
I start adding my second class at around level 30 or so and use it for support (Witchblade is a favourite, it has lots of support potential, Commando is also wonderfully powerful).
At fifty I’ll start shaping it into the build I’m planning longer-term, unless of course the build lends itself to gradual development. For example, right now I’m running a Crazy Chaos Cadence Witchblade by Sopranos:
This one is brilliant fun and at relatively lowish level (mid-thirties) I’m already running an abbreviated version of the build (and demolishing everything).
