Z introduces only a few audios like these in the new DLC and just watches where it will continue.
In terms of commerce and revolution, I firmly bet on one thing that should have been in commerce a long time ago, the union of music and games …Brother, have you thought about this song at the beginning of the next DLC, my God, it would be a dream, just imagine where GD could reach with this song in their game… (121) 20 Enter Sandman - Metallica with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra - YouTube
No idea how accurate the numbers provided are, but this should give you an idea of why Crate would much prefer their own music over licensing some big name’s track:
Example 3: Video Game Soundtrack
– Metallica Song: “Seek & Destroy” – Intended Use: Soundtrack for a popular video game – Duration: Continuous loop throughout the gameplay – Territory: International distribution across various gaming platforms – Licensing Fee: $500,000 – $2,000,000
When it comes to licensing a Metallica song as a prominent part of a video game’s soundtrack, the licensing fees can be substantial. In this example, the continuous loop of Metallica’s “Seek & Destroy” throughout the gameplay, coupled with international distribution across various gaming platforms, contributes to the higher licensing costs. The commercial value, popularity, and the immersive nature of the gaming experience also influence the pricing range.
Tbh I always turn off in-game music and listen to my own. I have no idea what the GD music is like. Perhaps I am the only person that does this, but possibly not.
Kinda seems counterintuitive. Why charge a huge sum for potentially free publicity? Someone likes game soundtrack, does research of what it is, buys the music. Money made for original artist. None of this would happen if the song is not in the game.
There is a song by a heavy metal band when we face the boss in the secret quest of Jom Bourbon, very good, I really don’t know how much they would charge to have one of their songs in the game, Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the rock world, it’s hard to see songs by famous bands in games, the only game where I saw some was Guitar Hero hahaha
And what kind of free publicity would the single biggest metal band get out of a small niche game?
I don’t know what world you live in, but Metallica has not had a reputation for giving shit away for a very long time, or do you not remember ‘Napster, Napster, where’s the money I’ve been after’, sung to the tune of Master of Puppets?
I really like Metallica (except their S & M album, that one was really bad) and Sepultura even more but I don’t think they fit in the game. Any music with lyrics in general won’t fit, in my opinion. The OST by Skewsound is great and has exactly the vibe I expected. I think lyrics would just mess with that vibe, there’s a reason why most videogame soundtracks are purely instrumental.
Because it’s Metallica, the single most greedy band in rock history (it’s probably just Lars and the band’s manager though).
I’d bet it cost Netflix several million dollars to license Master Of Puppets for that one Stranger Things episode, no way in hell any indie gamestudio can afford that.
Actually I take that back, I couldn’t be more wrong.
The single most greedy band in rock history is definitely KISS. They sold out way before Metallica even existed. Metallica appearing in Fortnite is child’s play, KISS had 2 video games with their names and faces slapped on it in the 90s already, they appeared in many others like Tony Hawk’s Underground and Madden NFL. They had their own pinball machine in the 70s, and countless other products that made them richer and their fans poorer. Condoms, Funkopops, you name it. I heard that KISS doesn’t stand for Knights In Satan’s Service, but for Keeping Idiots Steadily Spending.
Gene Simmons continues this sellout tradition but nowadays he only sells products because no one will go to his shows anymore. He even tried to sell a job position (yes, you pay to work for him) for $12.000 a night.
So yeah, Metallica is fine compared to KISS, and their music is a million times better too so they probably deserve every penny they earn on the sides.
