LMB skill binding limitations

I’d like to have Ill Omen on my left mouse. Why is this not allowed? I can bind for example Bone Harvest there just fine at it works without issues mechanically. Holding LMB to move around, clicking on an enemy casts Bone Harvest and if you click an enemy again while Bone Harvest is still on CD, it defaults to regular Weapon attack until CD is back up.

Why can’t I do the same with Ill Omen? I don’t have anything better to bind there, so having Ill Omen on essentially auto-cast via LMB would be great. But the game does not allow it.

EDIT:
Even more inconsistencies - Mark of Torment CAN be on LMB for some reason, while Ill Omen not. Really don’t understand the logic here. Some skills are really not suited for LMB, so I can understand the limitation existing, but seems way too strict and inconsistent in general.

Ill Omen does’t require a target, so binding it to left mouse would cast it everytime you click instead of moving you.

It’s true that, without a target, it will still perform its animation, but it won’t apply any damage or debuff to mobs and won’t go on cooldown.

Edit: OK, it works if in AoE range of a target.

I’m happy Ill Omen doesn’t need a target like in the past but radius now as it makes it easier to apply in some scenarios and also you don’t need to be very precise where you click.

That’s even worse, then you would just do the animation over and over again instead of moving while the skill is on cooldown. Admittedly, skills like this could just function differently, but that’s where we currently are.

I hadn’t even noticed that. I have still been dutifully aiming it at mobs

Primal Strike when bound to LMB doesn’t hit without a target but it does when on 0-9 or RMB. Maybe Ill Omen could do that too.

Your trigger discipline is duly noted, soldier. Commendable.

It probably could, Crate would just have to change it. As things are, the logic as far as I can tell is “If it would interfer with your movement, you can’t bind it to LMB”. Mark of Torment is therefore fine (even though the skill feels very similar), because it does need a target.

Bone Harvest doesn’t require a target either, but can be bound to LMB just fine. You just cast it by clicking on an enemy, or holding SHIFT. Don’t see why Ill Omen couldn’t behave the same.

But if that’s what it is, to be honest, I find the 2 meter radius on Ill Omen rather superfluous. Would be just fine without a radius and with a target requirement just like Mark of Torment.

It just spreads automatically (very quickly) from the initial target and 2 meters is basically useless in practice, because even if multiple enemies are in the radius, it affects only one (the one closest to the casting point) and not all enemies that are in the radius.

I assume it has something to do with skill templates (from my very limited modding knowledge back from Titan Quest) and Ill Omen is using one that does not allow the game logic to handle that? But I don’t really see the reason why Ill Omen behaves the same way as Curse of Frailty, when it only ever affects one initial target and has a basically non-existent radius.

And this is not the first time I’ve found myself with a character that has nothing useful to be put on LMB, due to the extreme limitation of the skills that can be put there.
