Loghorrean, reset health on player's death

What file do I need to change to restart the fight when the player dies?

Unlike others enemies, changing the value of healthGainOnKillPct to 100 of all the Loghorrean files in database/record/creatures/enemies/boss&quest doesn’t do anything.

Since 20% works but 100% doesn’t, try 99%. It may not allow 100% return because he has multiple “forms” that trigger on it’s health percent while using the same bar. The health return probably handles his current phase so it’s only calculating the current form of total HP and not the others. If that doesn’t work, try a % return of 300% to see if carries over.

You can only use that to return him up to the max of the phase he is in, so 100%, 66% or 33% depending on phase 1, 2 or 3.

Hello Zantai, are there any plan to change that so story arc boss fights restart from scratch when you die?

Loghorrean is the final boss of the storyline, I feel cheated, I want to fight an actual boss, not half of a boss, or a third of it. It spoils the sense of accomplishment and victory the player has when he wins. If it’s a matter of accessibility and difficulty, we have 3 difficulty levels for a reason, and let me tell you, even someone who isn’t very good at the game and only plays the first difficulty still wants to feel that he won the game, instead of having the victory handed to him, even if he only had to click one button to do so.

That’s also why bosses in Grim Dawn are such a dead topic and no one ever talks about them or care for that matter, they literally die on their own and the player doesn’t have to do anything. “Do you remember boss x, that fight was so cool/the boss was so badass, a bit tricky at first but if you do this or that and avoid that, then it’s easy”. “Me neither.”

feel free to log in again and start the fight over…

Speak for yourself, do not assume everyone wants this just because you do

in that case I fail to see why this change would even matter to you

You won’t find a single game, board game, card game, video game, sport, whatever, with this design choice, not even free to play facebook games, or web applications do it, because it’s the opposite of what a game is and what it is meant to accomplish, reward the player for following the rules, overcoming a challenge and win. it’s a mistake at the most fundamental level and I’m shocked no one bats an eye.

I get your point but, some bosses would simply suck complete ass if they always went back to 100% health after you died Clone of John Burbon for example.

Also, Log really isn’t that bad, pop a few pots and facetank away (for the most part), even on ultimate. BoC boss and some nemesis are a lot harder imo, and serve as “better end game challenges”. Plus technically Log is not the last boss of the story, considering there will be at least one expansion.

And you do find games with similar or even easier design choices, PoE for example, bosses don’t regen a % of their health at all if you die. So there is at least that.

I’m not talking about the difficulty, but the decision behind the choice. I’ve never played a game, not even an old mario game where the boss resumes a fight at 33% health. The boss always starts at 100%, but if you play easy, it takes 2 hits to kill him, if you play normal, it takes 5, and if you play hard it takes 10.

I’ve killed Nemesis bosses plenty times, but I’ve modded their health so it resets when you die. I wouldn’t have made the topic since I know no one cares (I’ve been browsing the reddit for the past 2 months, I haven’t seen a single post about a boss) but since I couldn’t mod Loghorrean, I thought I would ask. And a developer answered, I thought I might as well ask him directly.

I’m not defending this design choice, but i can tell you that a lot of games do this and i can name several if you want. So Grim Dawn isn’t the only who does this.

We can go through all the bad apples yes. Wait, I’m not sure, that sounds like bad publicity hah. I mean of course someone has had a similar idea at some pt, we all have bad days.

Fair enough, like i said i do get your point. And i would bet that you’re absolutely right about no one talking about story line bosses sense it seems everyone farms Nemesis bosses.

Anyways i guess the real question here would be if you could completely remove the 1-3 phases, that way you could change the health regen to restore to 100% every time. Seems to me that as long as those perimeters are in place you wont be able to change it, or mod each phase to go to 100% somehow but, IDK though sense im not to informed on the mod tools. :undecided:

The logging out to reset the world ? Yeah, plenty…
The enemy not being at 100% health after you die ? Yeah, plenty…

so no idea what you are talking about here
