Looking for the true "glass cannon" build

I’m pretty new to this game and have leveled a druid which is pretty fun. I’d like a more ranged build next, though…

I’m typically not a fan of damage-over-time…I prefer direct, in-yo-face high output DPS, direct damage, that likely comes at some cost of personal safety which is fine.

Seems like arcanist is a good pick for that? What other class should go with that? Again, goals are:

  • Ranged
  • Direct damage, not DOTs
  • Sacrifices a bit of survivability for additional damage (in other words, kiting and / or keeping distance is required)

I’d also be open to the idea of using pets. Kinda feel like I’ll need them to stay alive if I’m going glass cannon…

If you are looking for a high DPS glass cannon build, you might want to use Albrecht’s Aether Ray (AAR).
I made a Warlock using AAR as main damage source. Combined with Maiven’s Sphere and Possession, I also get about 30% damage absorption which gives me at least some survivability.
However AAR-builds need a lot of energy which is why you should have a look at your energy regeneration first. That is also the reason why I recommend you to start leveling with some other skills and to switch to AAR later when you can ensure that your energy bar is not empty after firing AAR for 1-2 seconds.

If you’re referring to Maiven’s Sphere and Possession then you’re wrong. As far as I know damage absorption doesn’t stack.

^ Damage Absorption buffs do stack but it’s multiplicative instead of aditive.

When you have 12 Points in Possession (12% Absorption) and 12 Points in Maiven’s Sphere (20%) then you get
1 - (1-0.12)*(1-0.2) = 0.296

I admit the formulation might be misleading, but I just wanted to show that you get some survivability with the damage absorption without explaining the mechanics behind any further.

All builds can be glass cannons. Just stack offensive stats through gear, devotions and skill trees. Ignore defensive skills and stats.
