Low fps fix

OK ! So…
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
Intel® Core™ i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
32.0 GB RAM Corsair Dominator DDR3
Asus Maximus VII Formula MotherBoard

With that beeing said, with everything and anything on LOW or OFF in Video Options, game is running at 25-30 FPS max, VSync OFF, everything OFF or LOWEST option possible, when a PET build is on screen, and with 30-35 FPS max when a lot of speels are on screen.

The game looks amazing, dont get me wrong, AMAZING, best of its kind, but…whats going on ?

One thing to do is make enchantments/auras/potions/skills/curses, that appear on player, other players, pets, other players pets, allies and any enemy creature, be at least 50% more transparent.

Another thing, is to do maybe the same thing to spells, or the effects they have a lil bit smaller, or less demanding, cause it clutters everything in a fight.

With pets is simple - everyone should see other players pets at 50% vizibility, transparent, they are already annoying on screen and u attack them with shift+click if u ranged, and u dont understand what is happening.

Overal there should be some game optimizations, or anything to make the game run smoother when a lot is happening on screen.

Again, the game looks AMAZING - but with a monster PC its very sad and annoying to not be able to always play at 60fps, even if all is on low or off.

No joke…2 pet build players in game, had to go everything off or low, and still 30fps max ! >:(

Are you sure GD is using your 980Ti and not your integrated graphics?

My FX 8350 OC’ed to 4.6 and GTX 950 With a slight OC runs at 55-60 FPS %95 of the time now, even with 10+ pets and 6+ buffs on screen. Doesn’t matter if its MP or SP. This is with settings on mid to very high, vsync and Depth of field off and lighting on low.

Im sure…i have no background application running, no nothing, just the game, but there is too much going on on the screen, duuno if its from me, but its unplayable…i looked in taks manager, nothing is eating system power except the game…

Hum odd, is there a chance that you have half sync (adaptive half refresh rate) enabled in the nvidia control panel for GD?

Well, as far as I know, GD is built on a modified version of the Titan Quest engine which is 11+ years old now and as such doesn’t utilise multi-core CPU’s well. Crate did release a patch (which helped me immensely) that helped with spreading the load around but there’s only so much they can do without designing a new engine from the ground up.

For a comparison, my rig is an i7-6700k @4.2 GHz, ROG GTX 1070 8GB OC Edition, 16GB RAM, ASUS Maximus VIII Hero mobo and in towns and areas with low-ish amounts of enemies/auras I get anything from 90-144fps. In areas with high mob density (30+ including Heroes) with their auras/particle effects (such as Overseers, Bloodsingers, Defender Heroes etc) from spells and my auras/spell effects (try casting Word of Pain and Flashbang on 20-30 mobs >.>) I can get down to 25 fps. I usually get freezes in these situations too, especially when I attempt to turn the camera if I’m in an area with a lot of clutter like Malmouth City, which is the main reason I don’t play HC. Those moments when the game hangs have gotten me killed too many times to count.

Yes it is a heavily modified TQ engine. It does support multi core, however not the best tbh.

Turning the camera causes a loss in FPS for me too (on my desktop), in some situations (which honestly makes sense). But 25 FPS and crashes because of that? which areas? and what drivers and OS? Honestly even my laptop with an AMD A6 APU didn’t crash in those situations where the FPS would drop like that.

I only get those horrible FPS drops in crucible, playing MP at higher waves.

You both have more powerful systems than i do though, so im lost.

What monitor do you have and what is its refresh rate? @ OP

I do believe the OP is not getting the performance he should. Perhaps his CPU is downclocking due to over heating, or maybe he has it in power saving mode, which doesn’t ramp up the clock rates. If reducing the settings still results in sub 60 FPS, and nothing changing, it seems more likely the CPU and not the GPU is the issue.

Vertycal Sync is on “use 3d app setting”

I play COD WWII - no issues…Sacred 2 -everything max in settings…this is not a problem only i have, there are too many things, too visible, that dont need to be that vissible, they sometimes get in the way of what u see like enemies…

Ok ! I think I fixed it after reading a lil on google.

  1. Turn off VSync & Triple Buffering in game
  2. Turn on VSync(“fast” not “on”) & Triple Buffering in NVIDIA Control Panel
  3. My Documents/Grim Dawn/Settings/Options.txt have the following as so:
    forceSingleProcessorMode = false
    maxResourceThreads = 4 (i had it on 1 - dunno why)

Last thing to do is set Grim Dawn to Realtime priority in task manager every time i start the game - if anyone knows how to set it permanetly on that pirority pls inform.

Starts in menu at 124 FPS, in Crossing at 90-95 FPS, and in Malmouth where there are a lot of monsters it goes to 50-60 - which is acceptable, cause i tested it in single player, but no pets, and considering that i have not tried Crucible yet…still…make visible magic less vissible, and other players pets and maybe skills/spells less vissible, maybe other players pets 50% less vissible, with 75% less vissible auras etc, and other players spells 25% less vissible.

Please check my thread, maybe it will help. Cheers!

I also set Power Management Mode in NVIDIA Control Panel as Prefer Maximum Performance, set the Physx on the CPU in the control panel and made sure that in game in video options, render device is my Graphics Card, even though i see 2 options there, both the same name, my graph card…and when i change the render device, everytime the game crashes, and when i start it up again, the render device is changed…seems it cant change it in game ?

Reading the thread now - thanks

Well the d3d9 made it work a lil slower, so no help there, and i still get areas with 35-40 FPS IN SINGLE PLAYER where the screen is half full…so I cant imagine in crucible…
Srry to say but after patch, FPS went down, and overall the game needs to be optimized a lot to run smooth, at least on good pcs…do i need 8 cores and 2x1080Ti to run it at 60FPS in crucible with pet build players ?

Really strange. I have AMD A10-7850K( pretty bad single core performance) , GTX 750 2GB and after 1.0.3.0 patch my fps went up a lot( last 2-3 patches increased my fps, but last one was fantastic! ) . I have pet build with 12 pets and my performance isnt bad. Almost always i have 60 fps with some drops to 40 or so

I think, that you system is messed up. I mean Operating System, because your PC should handle it easily without any fixes and etc at all ( imo 99% of fixes dont do anything at all! )

My FPS problem went away by running the game with Lighting set to Low. Nothing else really seemed to help, although I haven’t tried the /D3D9 renderer.

I have a Ryzen 1700x, 1080 Ti, and a 4k TV. Shouldn’t I be able to max things out aside from AA (set to either 2 or 4x) for this game at 4k? I can’t maintain 60 fps with a pet class with lighting set above low.

U can check if it’s your hardware ore the game engine by using tools like msi afterburner etc. with provide real-time monitoring on cpu,gpu load and fps.

I got 40-50% cpu and 40-60% gpu load but never reach my fps limit of 144. So it’s the fault of the game engine.

I have low fps too, but I thinks it’s because I have a pet build
