I’ve done some googling around this matter and apparently I’m not the only one feeling like this. Feels like some permanent buff effects are overly intrusive on screen, add excessive clutter at times and look plainly ugly. In my personal opinion, Maiven’s sphere of protection is the worst offender, but I also have a particular character where while I enjoy the look of the possession aura on him, I’d rather have him not show the glittery one from field command on top of it.
My point with this is, would it be realistic to expect some option to customize or toggle the aura/buff visuals on or off from our characters, even if just one sided? Feels like it wouldn’t be an awfully difficult implement, it’s up to the player’s choice all in all and purely cosmetic, and it would really be easier in the eyes.
Noticed all of the old topics on this matter went through unreplied, so some official word on it would be appreciated if possible.
I’d say the fact that this has not been changed in the game already can be seen as the official reply you are looking for. Crate definitely saw the posts…
Crate actually did tone it down at one point in the game’s history, it used to be quite a bit more opaque than it is now. Not that I don’t agree with you though.
A Reddit user created a mod to mitigate Maiven’s Sphere. Unfortunately the mod must be reinstalled when overwritten by updates. To this day the effect, which is the worst permanent effect I had ever seen in an ARPG, has discouraged me from playing the Arcanist.
I support Callynn’s suggestion: remove the repulsive bubble and let the runes surround the character in a spherical pattern. Ideally allow players to toggle effects at their discretion. The Illusionist was a wonderful addition. The ability to manage effects would be too.
You could light up tons of auras along with crab constellation, some lighting effects and Maven, then follow people around pretend to be the wisp ball from supporter packs
i’ve came here to wholeheartedly agree on ugliness of maiven’s sphere of obnoxiousness. Also, there’s this little thing, like your character model going right through the effect, making it looks like shiny cardboard.
I have a Callidor’s Tempest build which looks kinda cool with the bubble, but I’d rather have only the floating runes like you guys suggested.
An option to apply illusions to effects would be really neat. I really dislike those circling red swords of Oleron’s Rage, it reminds me more of a windows desktop icon than a mighty buff, looks kinda out of place.
An illusion item that re-colors your buffs and other player-related effects to any color you like would be awesome, preferably with an RBGA slider or color picker. Just an idea but I think many people would love it.
I think an option to toggle whether buffs and auras show or not just by right clicking on buff itself in the buff bar above your health would be enough for me. Preferably if it remembered to stay off each time you turn it on.
To add on to the illusionist, can there be an option with the illusionist to have no gear at all show? I think medals in this game are ugly as sin and frequently get in the way of the style of a character no matter which one I pick.
