Make Default Attack Replacers (DAR) mutually exclusive

Taking multiple Default Attack Replacers (DAR) is a mistake I know I made when picking up the game with a Commando. I recall seeing a couple beginners on Reddit or these forums who had somewhat similar issues, wasted skill points in a second DAR.

Making these skills mutually exclusive would prevent beginners from making this mistake.

Default Attack Replacer - Only one Default Attack Replacer can be used at a time.

A quick search on GT seems to indicate that there isn’t really any build which use two DAR, so this wouldn’t have an impact at a higher level.

However there are two aspects to the beginner error discussed:

  1. Failing to understand that one has to equip and use the DAR;
  2. And thus thinking that taking multiple ones causes their effects to stack.

The first aspect is pretty well taken care of in the skill description:

When used as your default weapon attack, [Skill] …

So this suggestion only makes sense if there is some amount of newer players who have two DAR levelled up, and have either or both unequipped.

It’s very possible that this population is so tiny that the suggestion doesn’t make sense! In fact, it could also hinder experimentation if one wants to try out both skills and doesn’t really care about wasting points: “Oh, maybe Righteous Fervor will feel better than Cadence”.

If the problem does exist but allowing experimentation is still important, then maybe some manner of warning could work.

You already use Cadence as a Default Attack Replacer. Righteous Fervor is a different skill that will not add a bonus to Cadence.

(Well, the warning would probably be better worded)

it’s not just DARs that bamboozle people like this, it’s spam attacks.
I’ve seen people have spam FW and spam PS etc etc at the same time, perhaps even with a DAR sprinkled in on top

Only build i recall seeing trying to make actual use of it was… Firestrike+Deadly Momentum Valdun?

I think tooltip wise it might perhaps be simple enough if the skills just got a tag “this is a DAR” “this is a WPS”, but likely still wont prevent outliers still taking two DARs without the big text box

Sometimes it works out to use two DAR’s:

In this case I’m using Cadence primarily and using Touch of Chaos for a hit every couple seconds with bosses for DR.

There may be a very rare application for two DAR’s here and there only when it’s something like this I think (one Mastery DAR and one item-granted DAR).

You can visit the Spirit guide to respec.
So the points aren’t wasted. You just need iron to buy those points back.

My hope was always that DAR’s would be made mutually exclusive, and then actually replace your default attack in all cases. Including for skills that use your default attack while on cooldown. I understand that there is likely a huge technical limitation restricting this however, if they even wanted to do that.
