Make Epics , Epic again (most are useless)

Hey guys, me again^^

Since the AoM addon epics became very useless because of powerful modifers…

I think they need something special to it again. Maybe unique skills (not only everlasting flame skill to all epics :D) which can build around completly new builds like Shar’Zul’s Incinerator, the skill on it (Hell Path) is very unique;)
Maybe Epics should get modifers as well. Maybe modifers in form of skill changers (eg. Inquisitor Ignition skill gets more radius) or something. I think all Epic sets need modifers too. Make them epic again …

A example:

Old: (useless)

Mythical Spinecarver
Epic One-Handed Sword
101-124 Physical Damage
28% Armor Piercing
1.93 Attacks per Second
21-41 Physical Damage
10% Chance of 1050 Bleeding Damage over 3 Seconds
+143% Physical Damage
+143% Internal Trauma Damage
+143% Bleeding Damage
+10% Attack Speed
+2 to Execution
+2 to Blade Arc
+2 to Savagery

Noone will ever play with it

New:
If it gets * +2 meters to Grasping Vines and +100 bleeding dmg it would be great…

This one looks so awesome (transmog) and i think noone ever saw it ^^

Gavel of Barthollem
“Sacred gavel of Archon Barthollem, used to pass divine judgement upon the unworthy.”
Epic One-Handed Mace
45-182 Physical Damage
1.68 Attacks per Second
16-24 Fire Damage
+62% Physical Damage
+91% Fire Damage
15% Physical Damage converted to Fire Damage
+34 Offensive Ability
+2 to Vindictive Flame
+2 to Forcewave
Granted Skills
Ring of Everlasting Flame (50% Chance on Critical Attack)

Bathe yourself in incinerating flames that burn all around you to cinders, but leave you unharmed.
3 Second Skill Recharge
3 Second Duration
4 Meter Target Area
101 Fire Damage
206 Burn Damage over 2 Seconds

New:
A Mythical version !
-Delete this Ring of Everlasting Flame Skill
*+500 Burn damage to Vindictive flame and +5 meter range to vindictive flame (or something very special ^^ like: -20% dmg but forcewave spread in a 360° angle around you. Or something which fits in the engine. If you cast forcewave it cast it twice with -20%dmg)

I could mod them but thats not the thing, i have ideas for all items but i want them ingame for everyone.

I agree that epic trash I mean items are kinda weak. I basically never check what I get unless the item looks weird (visually, not stat wise), because, in my opinion, only few retaliation items and pet items are good/ok + some of jewelry. I don’t count MIs to that. Some epics are actually okay, aside of those I just distinguished, but there are totally niche items. I actually rather take a rare item than an epic one.

I don’t know how would it be possible to change them, skill modifiers could work but this would become kind of repetitive.

yep. maybe they have only a modifer or a unique powerful skill on it. Not both like legendarys. They need something special to it. Nearly everyone walks with legendary + rare greens around…

Well even bad epics are nice, when they drop first time when you have nothing else to use, so there´s that for epics favour.
After you start getting legendaries they kinda lose their charm, though.
Suppouse that´s what they are for, placeholders for BiS.
To male em rival end game legendaries leads to demands for better legendaries and so on.
Is it that the green MI´s are just too good?

This.
Sometimes epic pieces win over because legendary that suits your build does not exist. Sometimes an unique build could be made using epic sets.

They are fine.

This. Epics are not meant to be items you use until the very end. You replace them with better items / legendaries as you find them, just like any other item

Epics are transition items, not endgame items that are in the final build. And i would argue several epics are just flat out better than some legendaries.

Signet of the Damned is actually one of my favorite items in the game. Flat OA, flat health, ADCTH, aether and chaos res plus a SoC proc.

Just out of curiosity a spent a good 10mins at grimtools to make a list of high level epics (IMHO) genuinely competing with legendaries, possibly being BiS for certain builds:

Mythical Shadowspark Hood
Mythical Bounty Hunter’s Hat
Horns of Ekket’Zul (lv94 one)
Cauldron of Excitement (lvl94 one) (yes, i’m totally serious)
The Eastern Oath (set) (probably?)
Mythical Quickdraw Gloves
Mythical Arcanoweave Cord
Mythical Shadowfiend’s Cord
Mythical Sharpshooter’s Pouch
Mythical Legplates of Valor
Mythical Spiritcrusher
Mythical Finger of Gar’Dalvur (just kidding  )
Mythical Dawnshard Bulwark
Mythical Wyrmclaw
Mythical Razorleaf Glaive (not really, i just wish  )
Mythical Cursebearer
The Magelord (set)
Mythical Signet of the Damned (just for you Norzan  )
Elemental Harmony (set)
Mythical Black Star of Deceit

It’s not that long of a list (altough i most likely missed some good stuff), but still an ipmressive (IMHO) one especially in the light of (as others said before) the fact that the main role of epics is to be stepping stones towards legendaries, making you able to farm them.

Mythical Unseeing Eye of the Blind Assassin - +1 all nightblade skills, up to 7% CDR and flat DA
Mythical Silver Sentinel’s Shoulderguard - flat Cold damage, acid/poison converted to cold/frostburn, flat OA and +3 lethal assault
Empowered Essence of Beronath (yes, a lvl 75 one) - Flat Elemental Damage, Attack&Cast Speed, +1 to all skills

These are my favorites.

Dreadwalker, Silver Sentinel (the shoulders were mentioned) and Unseeing Eye (amulet was mentioned) are pretty strong epic sets.

Shame on me, i must got tired of digging by the time i reached the jewelry section :o.

Magelord - yes
Elemental Harmony - yes
Eastern Oath - probably yes, but only pants and gloves obviously.
Quickdraw Gloves - yes
Shadowfiend - yes

Everything else looks questionable to me.
Helmets in general is a no, because legendary helmet pool is so large it’s always possible to find something suitable. Unless it’s a part of the good epic set like Silver Sentinel.
Legplates of Valor - I had seen exactly 0 builds in AoM with it. Same for every other item I didn’t mentioned.

These helms give +1 skills to 2 (or more) masteries with some other nice stuff like %da or AS, and while the chance of a build absolutely needing those skill points is not particularly high but certainly higher than zero and in those cases they sure ass hell beat clairvoyant’s hat for their respective class combos imho.

I had seen exactly 0 builds in Aom with it too, most likely because since the xpack hit it became considerably easier to farm good MIs both in cruci and the main game.

And i used the term “possibly BiS” on a strong emphasis on “possibly”. And while MIs are strictly better, M. Legplates of Valor “competing with legendaries” (stat wise) is a statement i can stand for.

As for the other stuff they are mostly gimmicks, but i surely can think of builds to utilize them.
Like cursebearer is somewhat better than voidheart for pure vit builds (the other ring slot is for m. signet of the fallen of course);
m. dawnshard bulwark has a proc with insane fumble and impared aim values; m. sharpshooter’s pouch has a great DA reducing flashbang proc which could fill a hole in some exotic builds, spiritcrusher is the only weapon combining a -vitality resist proc with +1 necro skills; etc.

PS: I’m kind of a weirdo (and just a puny mortal of course) so you probably right anyway :undecided:.

Only other Mythical Epic I want to add that I can think of is Mythical Soulsplitter.

Edit: Vanguard of the Legion/Mark of Fierce Resolve were both sold pre-expansion too. Vanguard still can be used on end game builds even but I would love a Mythical for it that gives it’s stats a little bump.

I use Mythical Emberstone Treads on my Grenadier and feel these boots are overlooked. They’re definitely not bad.

A lot of my fire builds use Mythical Seal of the Blazing Inferno because I have a few of them with 129 OA and really shit rolls on the Gargabol rings.

Up until I got a decent MI roll on certain Nemesis’ pants I was using Mythical Runeward Legguards.

I use Blazeer Signet’s on my Defiler (they provide the necessary vitality to fire conversion for the build).

During the levelling stages a lot of my builds use Mythical Zolhan’s Battle Plate (whether I go Soldier or not).

My burn retaliation commando uses Mythical Blacksteel Gauntlets (they could do with an armor buff)

Whilst very few epics are end game material, I feel very few actually need work. They’re epics, they’re supposed to sustain you until you get a decent MI or legendary.

I request some Mythical Grenadier Shoulderguards because I like the Canister Bomb proc and heavy armor.

i mean if we get the new addon, epics will go down for sure… i mean work time (designing and creating a unique skin) wont fit to those powers they are spending, thats stupid. the existence is because of transmogs and waiting to get the right legendary? it would be cool if they get modifers on parts like rings , shoulders, boots, pants, belts and chest armor. All slots on which no modifers exists. Thats game changing. Or something else. a 2nd augment slot or whatever. There are some exceptions i know but the most epics are trash.

there have to be a clue behind those items.
legendarys and monster inf. have its right to exist, blues not really

i dont want a shining blue item on the ground thats indicates me its trash like white items  (maybe we get a sound if items drop with the addon;) then it gets annoying to get sounds for trash )

Since you keep sayin Epics are trash, despite everyone sayin them good for leveling, gotta ask this:
In end game builds or for leveling?
I assume you DO level yar toons the hard way.

for everything
end game compatible (with the new shattering game mode , ya its the shattering city)
and progress

Highly doubt they will add modifiers to epic items, just a lot more balancing for items that are supposed to be transition items for better ones.

I’ve written about it more thoroughly in one of my own feedback threads, but considering that it’s not exactly easy to obtain a full Epic set, they should at the very least be able to beat campaign content taking those sets to their full potential. Every single Epic Set for pet builds is awful - so much so that using the Epic sets gets you killed in Campaign more often than not. I find it a bit unfair that Silver Sentinel can blast through 170 and Dreadcarver can easily get you through 150, but you can’t get through a single Nemesis battle in campaign with a pet Epic set without getting seriously close to dying.

I like the idea of Epics being really good stat sticks (or good items with okay procs) while Legendaries have skill modifiers + build-defining procs. Items like the Mark of Fierce Resolve, Runesinged Gloves, Mythical Solemn Mark, and the blue Tempest Sigil are great examples of Epic Items that you look forward to getting in Campaign and can hold you for a long time, even comparable to Legendaries. These items don’t need much other than smart skill bonus placement and a really good resistance filler that other items don’t have.

There are quite a few Legendary items that simply aren’t worth it in this game, so I assume those items will be looked at before diving into the mess of balancing an entire tier of items.
